New Orleans is a city where culture runs deep and the energy of the crowd is as vibrant as its rich history. 🎺✨ Our own Rich Vallaster III, CEM, DES brought back not just beignets and blues but invaluable insights from the @NSBA Conference for Public Education Leaders. Here are three takeaways for event professionals looking to make the most out of their host cities: 1️⃣ Destination Matters: Choose a city that beckons not just you, but also your attendees AND their families. A destination worth the travel. 2️⃣ Merge Event with Experience: Blur the lines between event spaces and city streets. Plan activities that splash the local colors into your event palette. 3️⃣ Leave a Positive Footprint: Whether through service or advocacy, ensure your event leaves a lasting positive legacy in the city. Congrats on a beautiful piece Jose Richard Aviles; Much reflection happening around this year's solstice. Grateful to be in community with you. Give the paper a read: https://lnkd.in/geZZQXHM Two quotes resonating with me, as a planner in the philanthropic field, we are tasked to create strategy, one can see that much like traditional "planning". Mulling on these notes to inform what this can look like in practice: "When community members don't approve a planner's suggestion, the planner might become frustrated, thinking about their education, expertise, and the amount of work they've done. But countertransference reminds us these things are irrelevant if those affected by our interventions are in disagreement. We must listen and go back to the drawing board, no matter how long it takes." "I'm not interested in the accolades of flesh, but rather the healing of soil. At the core of social work practice is the dignity of people and the importance of self-creation. By incorporating these ideals into planning, we can facilitate the design of cities that not only reconcile the trauma of past racist urban policies, but also provide access to a dignified quality of life for all people."
I just got the exciting news that I'll be presenting at the Reinventing the City Conference in Amsterdam next April! I'll be presenting on my paper called Planners as Therapists, Cities as Clients. Below is a condensed version of the paper. The longer paper will come out early next year. Enjoy! I'd also love to hear your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/gWWSW-r

Reinventing services and organisations, moving beyond traditional ways of working. Leading and empowering new ways of working.
Moving from discrete simple services to working in the complex world of the nature of people, families and communities, is a shift to designing from the person. It is in the humanising of our work. Not only does this help people to get back in control of their lives, but demand and the costs consumed drop. This is about true strength based public sector transformation. This should be an interesting collection of the work that is ongoing all around the country in strength based working. #strengthbased, #publicsector
We are delighted to launch our Liberating Public Services conference which will be held on 21st March 2024 at Hilton Gateshead Newcastle. TRADITIONAL SWAN UPPING Being virtual and working-from-home doesn't mean we never meet our clients in real-life! This week, Paddy had the chance to meet up with our long-term client, Ian, at a Swan Upping event in Maidenhead. If you didn't know, Swan Upping is a five-day journey on the River Thames by participants named 'Swan Uppers' who provide health checks to the swans and cygnets they pass. Sounds like a fascinating experience, doesn't it! So, being a VA doesn't mean you never get the opportunity to meet us in person! #virtualassistantuk #virtualpa #businesssupport #smallbusinessowner
