Understanding the effectiveness of Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is a complex undertaking. Unlike simpler technologies, such as automatic emergency braking, drivers can choose when to use or not use L2 ADAS features, making it difficult to connect assumptions about ADAS safety improvements to real-world use. Learn how Exponent brings together data science and human factors to help OEMs understand the on-road reality of these technologies: https://hubs.li/Q02M5R_y0 David Cades, Ryan Harrington, Kristin Lennox, PhD, Iiona D. In my recent interview with Drive, I discussed how over-reliance on modern car safety tech, like ADAS, may lead drivers to feel less responsible and less engaged on the road. This "automation complacency" mirrors what we’ve seen in aviation, where automation can reduce situational awareness. While these features undoubtedly reduce accidents, they may also create a false sense of security, encouraging risky behaviours like multitasking. Ultimately, I believe that while tech can aid, defensive driving and accountability are irreplaceable for safety. https://lnkd.in/gW9zehCT

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) refer to technologies designed to assist drivers in safely operating vehicles. Given that most road accidents result from human error, ADAS aim to automate, adapt, and enhance vehicle technology for improved safety and driving experience. Mechanical Engineer, Robert Taylor, shares his expertise on the different types of ADAS and how each may respond in the event of collision. He takes time to answer questions such as “What does the data tell us?” and “What can be determined from published literature and test results?”. Join Robert Taylor as he presents a webinar on this subject on Thursday 25th July at 9:30am BST. https://lnkd.in/edvUjGSV #AdvancedDriverAssistanceSystems #ADAS #RoadTrafficCollision #RTC

🚗 Exciting News! 🚗 I’m thrilled to share that I’m currently working on a new course covering ADAS - “What ADAS Is, Why It Exists, and Its Implications for the Motor Industry and Drivers.” As the automotive landscape rapidly evolves, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are becoming integral to the safety and functionality of modern vehicles. This course will explore the opportunities that ADAS presents for both the motor industry and consumers. We’ll dive into the practical implications of these systems. For instance, while there are certain tolerances within ADAS, there are also key areas where precision is critical. This opens the door for garages and automotive retailers to thrive by offering ADAS calibration and maintenance. Did you know that proper maintenance of ADAS can significantly reduce the risk of accidents? Road safety is now at the heart of legislation, with "automated vehicles expected to improve road safety by reducing human error, which contributes to 88% of road collisions”. ** I believe that by educating industry professionals on these systems, we can empower them to take advantage of this shift towards greater safety and efficiency. Stay tuned for more updates, including a pre-order link for the course! Let’s embrace the future of driving—together! 🚘 #ADAS #AutomotiveIndustry #ProfessionalDevelopment #Innovation #SafetyFirst —- ** (Source: UK Gov) https://lnkd.in/esWj_PbP

"Breaking the Myth About ADAS Levels in the Fleet Industry" There's a lot of buzz about ADAS and its transformative potential for fleet safety. However, a common misconception is that every ADAS level provides full automation or autonomy. Let's clear the air: - ADAS Levels 1-3: These levels primarily assist the driver but still require human oversight. From features like lane-keeping to adaptive cruise control, these systems enhance driver safety but do not replace the driver. - ADAS Level 4-5: Now, this is where true autonomy comes into play, but we are still some time away from mainstream Level 5 adoption, especially in commercial fleets. As fleet operators and businesses, it's crucial to understand that ADAS is a driver assistance tool, not a replacement. Implementing the right level of ADAS can greatly reduce risks and increase efficiency but requires a well-trained human driver behind the wheel. Let’s continue embracing the potential of ADAS while staying grounded in reality to make informed decisions for fleet safety. #ADAS #FleetSafety #Telematics #Innovation #FutureOfMobility #varroc
