Dspace 8 will be a great improvement from the community effort that started with DSpace 7. It will not be a huge upgrade like DSpace 7 was, but it will introduce many great features such as the COAR Notify ones: Why COAR Notify? Remember when the OAI-PMH protocol was an emerging idea? The DSpace community embraced the challenge looking at the future of the platform. The OAI-PMH protocol faced skepticism, but today, it’s a cornerstone of DSpace and the scholarly ecosystem as a whole. Well, COAR Notify will follow a similar trajectory. Let’s dive into the details: What’s COAR Notify All About? COAR Notify is all about linked data notifications—a fancy term for seamless communication between repositories and external services. Features That’ll Make Your Repository jump in the future Embedded Inbox Magic: DSpace 8 will display an embedded inbox that can receive notifications. Automatic Discovery: COAR Notify will be generating LDN (Linked Data Notification) messages about DSpace items. It’s like Cupid with a PhD in metadata. 💘 Queue It Up: Incoming and outgoing messages will queue up for asynchronous processing. Why? Because even notifications deserve a little patience. Why Should You Care? These features aren’t just features to make DSpace look famcy, they’re the future of repositories. Sure, not every institution will jump on the COAR Notify bandwagon right away, but that’s okay. DSpace with these features is ensuring we don’t get stuck in the repository Stone Age. 🦕 🔍 Long-Term Vision: The DSpace community isn’t just thinking about tomorrow; we’re working for the next decade. DSpace 8 with COAR-Notify is our ticket to embrace the future, and not fear it. Embrace the change and let’s move forward together #DSpace8 #COARNotify #FutureReady #Openness #Innovation

Now published in OJ-CSYS: "A Computational Framework for Optimal Adaptive Function Allocation in a Human-Autonomy Teaming Scenario," by Sooyung Byeon, Joonwon Choi and Inseok Hwang. Link: https://lnkd.in/gXBEkFpM This paper presents a quantitative framework for optimal task function allocation in human-autonomy teaming (HAT), essential for collaborative efforts between humans and autonomous agents. To overcome challenges in qualitative studies, we propose a computational approach leveraging cognitive engineering and optimization techniques to simulate and optimize teamwork in the early stage of HAT design. The method involves analyzing teamwork, simulating interactions, and optimizing adaptive function allocation based on contextual factors. Demonstrated in a simulated disaster relief scenario with a human work model and drone fleet, our framework ensures efficient function allocations across diverse operational conditions. This innovative solution offers a robust model for expediting HAT design processes. #HRI #teaming #autonomousagents #taskanalysis #optimization #resourcemanagement

Humans have long-dreamed of flying around the world and exploring never before seen locations or remote historical sites restricted to visitors. As it turns out, in recent years, this dream has become possible through virtual tours and street views. However, creating these tours requires a lot of data, processing time, and expertise. Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) Program Manager, Ashwini Deshpande, believes the solution to these problems is within reach with the Walk-through Rendering from Images of Varying Altitude (WRIVA) program. WRIVA’s goal is to develop software algorithms that can build photorealistic environments using a few images taken from a ground-viewpoint, along with images from traffic cameras and satellites. 🛰️ Exciting News! 🛰️ I'm thrilled to share that our paper titled "Flight Software Design and Implementation for a CubeSat" has just been published on IEEE Xplore. 🔍 Key Highlights: Modularity & Reusability: We dive into the challenges of creating a reusable and modular Flight Software for CubeSats, tailored for rapid interchanging of payload cubes across various missions. App-Based Approach: A novel design featuring a service-oriented architecture, allowing Apps to be easily added/removed based on ever-evolving mission requirements. Command Line Interface (CLI): Simplifying the interaction with various onboard subsystems, our CLI facilitates an intuitive, human-readable interface that bypasses the complex native binary commands typically seen in satellite systems. Script Engine: Building on the CLI, we introduce a Script Engine that orchestrates sequences of commands. This allows for seamless command execution while the satellite orbits, regardless of ongoing ground contact. This work has been a collaborative effort, and I'm grateful for the support and insights from the entire team. As CubeSats continue to revolutionize the space industry, our goal remains: to develop reliable, adaptive, and user-friendly software solutions. Co-authors: Shadi Atalla, Saeed Al Mansoori, Prof. Hussain Al-Ahmad, FIET,SMIEEE, C.Eng. 🔗 Find the full paper on IEEE Xplore here: https://lnkd.in/dFQps7fJ #CubeSat #SpaceTech #FlightSoftware #IEEE #Research
