How did Oliver Glasner improve Crystal Palace from a tactical/data perspective in the Premier League this season?   - In possession Palace improved in build up through a less direct approach to breaking lines - They also ranked 4th in the league at receiving between the lines under Glasner - They showed less intent playing forward on transitions when compared to Hodgson but committed more tactical fouls to prevent the opposition breaking - Under Glasner they changed to a back 3 and played slightly higher and more compact - They also improved in defensive duels - Physically Palace showed more intensity out of possession and ranked 2nd in the league under Glasner for overlap runs #EPL #CPFC #DataAnalysis

Interesting to hear that Spurs are using more short passes that any other Premier League team. What exactly is termed a short pass is probably open to debate, but likely falls in the six to 12/15 yards category for most. Even more intriguing is that this has been the methodology of Fernando Diniz, winning the Libertadores Cup with the Brazilian side Fluminense. Dinis is now managing Brazil, where the style has not yet met with success, but with which he plans to persist until it does. Short combination passing with groups of three, four or even five players has advantages in that the short pass is easier to maintain accuracy. The group combinations create overloads and if the opposition sends in more players to combat the overloads, it leaves bigger spaces elsewhere on the field for those not involved in the combination play.
