What can we learn from Magnum's latest campaign - "stick to the original" ? In this campaign Magnum fights against own label. The TV advert depicts a woman unpacking shopping that her partner has just returned with, only to find he's bought fake magnums. This leads her to question what else has been fake in their relationship...and she soon goes off to find the real thing instead! Magnum's social media content has followed suit, whilst also focusing on those things that really make a Magnum stand out from any other copy-cat ice cream. For me this campaign is a great reminder to call out your USPs (unique selling points) What makes your products different from others? Why buy yours brand and not an own label version? Some of those selling points may be really obvious, but others may not - so call them out - don't assume your audience knows. I think the simple, clear messaging works really well too - "stick to the original" and "spot the 7 differences" - they are very clearly making us think about why their product is better than another similar ice-cream. This simple, uncomplicated messaging will capture their audience's attention for longer. I also love that they've chosen to begin this campaign in January. I'm not sure that many of us fancy eating ice cream in the winter months, so on the face of it, it seems like a weird time to be advertising this. However, the mere exposure to this campaign over time means that when we do come to purchase ice creams in the summer, we are more likely to buys theirs vs another brand. What do you think?
