New Study Alert! What it means for your Population Health Programs. An interesting study published in JAMA Network Open looks at: Neighborhood-Level Socioeconomic Status and Prescription Fill Patterns Among Patients With Heart Failure Overall, no big surprises: "In this cohort study of 6247 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, patients living in neighborhoods with lower nSES had significantly higher odds of nonadherence to guideline-directed medical therapy." But within the possible interventions: "Surprisingly, we found no mediation by access to transportation or pharmacy density, and only a small mediation effect by walkability. So we have to go beyond solving for transportation and access, to truly solve the issues." As a Population Health Program: Look to provide much broader interventions: health literacy, income, family support, individual beliefs, etc. if you want to solve these issues. https://lnkd.in/es9injfv #healthcare #SDoH #publichealth #pharmacy #populationhealth

New study in #HSR from Christine Durrance PhD et al evaluate the effect of rural hospital closures on infant and maternal health outcomes. FULL ARTICLE: https://lnkd.in/gbnTDQ5J WHAT IS KNOWN Disparities exist between urban and rural populations in both health care access and outcomes, especially for pregnant populations accessing prenatal care and labor/delivery services. WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS Hospital closures in rural counties have important implications for maternal and infant health, and these consequences are different for residents of moderately rural and most rural counties. CONCLUSION Loss of hospital care has meaningful effects on the rural populations; investigating rural counties in aggregate may miss nuanced differences in the effects on the margin of rurality. #HealthServicesResearch AcademyHealth Wiley

A new medical study paints a grim picture: racial and ethnic minorities are 20-30% more likely to be misdiagnosed compared to white patients. This translates to a shocking disparity: nearly one in four hospital patients who experience harm or death due to misdiagnosis belong to a minority group. The study calls misdiagnosis a major public health concern, affecting millions of adults annually in the U.S. Published in JAMA Internal Medicine and BMJ Quality & Safety, the research highlights the urgent need for language and cultural inclusivity in healthcare. Factors like communication barriers and unconscious bias can significantly impact diagnosis accuracy, particularly for patients of color. This National Minority Health Month, we invite you to read our latest blog and learn more about how the complex factors contributing to these disparities can be addressed. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gF37ReJM #healthcare #healthdisparities #misdiagnosis #NMHM #nationalminorityhealthmonth #languagelinesolutions

📚A study in 2020 published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health found the rate of #CHD had an 18.7% increase from 1990. This statistic might sound scary but it demonstrates the positive strides made in CHD research over the last few decades. The rate of death from CHD has decreased 34.5% since 1990. Since 1990 significant progress has been made in diagnosing CHD, which can explain the rise in rates. Additionally, early diagnosis allows healthcare teams, parents, and caregivers to take action early, explaining the decrease in mortality rate🫀 Research is essential to progress being made in the #CHDCommunity❗️Learn more at the link below⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gRz-C_d3
