🏳️🌈 Which of these men were gay? This is what plagues my mind at the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month. Out of 18 million potential World War II enlistees, between 4,000 and 5,000 were identified as homosexuals. About 50,000 men and women received a ‘blue' discharge and were expelled from duty. Because of their sexuality. From 1939 to 1945, a total of 39,538,064 American citizens served in the Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard combined. 11,535,000 were draftees. 6,332,000 were volunteers. My father and his identical twin brother voluntarily enlisted at age 17. Both of them homosexuals. Both of them closeted. 🏳️🌈 How many of the others enlisted were gay? Alfred Kinsey conducted sexual orientation studies in 1948 and 1958. Kinsey reported that 10% of males and 3% of women identified as being exclusively homosexual as early as adolescence. That means that out of that 39,538,064 combined active service number 13% (5,139,948) went unidentified by military personnel as gay. 13% of unidentified gays were not expelled. 13% of unidentified gays did not receive a blue discharge. 13% of unidentified gays remained in active duty until the end of the war. That statistic included my father and my uncle. Their eldest brother tried to rescue his fellow soldiers from a downed plane. The plane exploded killing their brother and everyone aboard. They were among the 1,076,245 military casualties. 🏳️🌈 How many casualties were gay? According to Kinsey’s statistic, about 139,911. My father and uncle, were among the few survivors from their barracks. They suffered survivors guilt along with the shame of being gay. 15,225 distinguished US military medals were awarded between 1939 and 1946. 🏳️🌈 How many were awarded to gays? According to Kinsey’s statistic, about 1,979. The Medal of Honor is the highest US award for military valor in action. 473 soldiers received The Medal of Honor. Many of them posthumously. 🏳️🌈 How many recipients were gay? According to Kinsey’s statistic, about 61. The Bronze Star is the fourth highest-ranking US military award for performing a heroic and/or meritorious deed in armed conflict. 565 military women and 395,380 military men were awarded. 🏳️🌈 How many were gay? According to Kinsey’s statistic, 17 recipients would be women and 39,538 male. I can personally attest to two gay male recipients. My father received one Bronze Star medal for heroism. He ran into incoming enemy artillery disobeying his commanding officer’s orders to carry out four wounded straight men. I wonder if those soldiers’ families would still be grateful for my father’s heroism, taking shrapnel in his legs, averting mines and active shelling, to save their sons had they known my father was gay? August 26 is Women’s Equality Day, marking the date in 1920 when citizens were guaranteed the right to vote regardless of their sex through the ratification of the Constitution’s 19th Amendment. Women’s Equality Day celebrates women’s resilience in the face of adversity as they fought for equal rights. The first women’s rights convention took place July 19-20, 1948, in Seneca Falls, New York. There were hundreds of attendees, with many signing the Declaration of Sentiments, a document detailing gender inequality in America. Among the notable signatories were suffragists Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who believed women’s rights and black rights were inseparable. From the Revolutionary War through World War II, women served in the military, but mainly during wartime and in a civilian capacity. Then, in 1948, Congress granted women the right to “serve as permanent, regular members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force” under the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. Sixty-five years later, on Jan. 24, 2013, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta removed the military’s ban on women serving in combat. Currently, about 17.3% of active-duty members are female. When over half of young Americans think October 7th terror attacks are justified, we have a major problem ⚠️ We should all be concerned about how poorly informed many young people seem to be, about major news events A survey found that 57% of 18-34 year old Americans think the attack on October 7th was JUSTIFIED Do we not see the problem with this?
