🌴 Contributing Towards Sustainable Education! 🌴 The 2023 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award, hosted by SEAMEO Secretariat, was an #enthralling competition in which international schools around the world showcased their efforts towards maintaining a #sustainable learning environment. 🏞️ Along with my partner, Jennifer, we showcased Tanarata International Schools' prowess in #educating students of all years about sustainability, as well as providing means to reduce their #carbon footprint on the planet. This project was titled "Green Synergy". Highlights include showcasing #aquaponic farms, #solar panels, and an exclusive interview with the founder of the school regarding the unique design of the campus. ☀️ Out of a staggering total of 115 schools who have participated globally, Tanarata International Schools was shortlisted for the prize - along with 8 others. In Seville, magic has been done again. People who hardly knew each other, of different ages, nationalities and life situations have worked as a team for 48 consecutive hours to improve the urban thermal comfort so longed for in the city and to generate a true alliance between the private sector, the public sector, universities, local associations, and citizens to promote a Seville that is more resilient to climate change and a fairer society. 🤝 Within the framework of the EU-funded DeepProject's 2nd study visit, which was organized this week in Barcelona by MedWaves, we had the honor of receiving a delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of Türkiye, along with the DEEP Project Managers at the Agència de Residus de Catalunya's premises yesterday. 💡 MedWaves, as a Consortium Partner in this 36-month long project, provides 'Technical Assistance for the Assessment of Turkey's Potential in Transitioning to a Circular Economy'. This aligns with the primary mission of our center, which is to offer capacity-building support to the Contracting Parties of the #BarcelonaConvention. 🔄 Throughout this week, the MedWaves team engaged in this project has arranged meetings not only with public authorities but also with non-governmental organizations such as Roba Amiga and the Fundació Trinijove, as well as public-private stakeholders like Vallès Circular. We have been informed with great pleasure, that the ninth grade student of the Wiedtal-Gymnasium, Ben Schellberg, took second place with his project on #biochar in the regional competition “Jugend forscht”. As a cooperation partner of this project, we are particularly happy about this great success and would like to offer our warmest congratulations on this fantastic achievement! How was the collaboration established? In summer 2023, a group of students of the Wiedtal-Gymnasium visited us as part of a project week on the topic of sustainability (𝘸𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘐𝘯). In this context, the topic of biochar was also highlighted and examined in greater detail because it is very important to deal with this valuable substance in the fight against climate change. It can be used in many different ways such as to treat water or improve soil health. The truly brilliant thing about biochar is that the carbon is bound stably for at least 1,000 years. The carbon is thus removed from the Earth’s atmosphere for the long-term. We are delighted that the resulting ecological and economic benefits made a lasting impression on the students. We hope that even more attention will be paid to the sustainable and innovative topic of biochar in the future. A good start has already been made. Together, we're on a mission to introduce young people to the benefits of a circular economy and inspire action towards sustainability.
