It is encouraging to see the passion, patriotism and sense of nationalism that Papua New Guineans near and far, display every year during our independence anniversaries. It is also heart-warming to see others who in one way or the other call our motherland home, and support us in our pursuit for development and nation building, share in our sense of pride for our heritage. These show that we as a nation, are not defined by the deteriorating quality of leadership displayed over the past few decades, and the sometimes questionsble, reckless and selfish decisions of the few men and women we’ve placed our democratic power on, to decide our collective fates. We have always been a resilient kind throughout the decades pre and post independence, and even though there is a lot to be disappointed about, there is also a lot to be proud of, and a lot of hope for the furtherance of national interest, that we can still hold on to. The generations that will come after us demand it of us, and it is our civic duty to continue upholding national interest and play our parts towards nation building, wherever we are placed. Our forefathers carved out a path and developed a road map for us, 5 decades ago when our land of a thousand tribes forged together as one united nation. We have more than deviated from this road map, and what they envisaged for us then, which is still so relevant today. Our entire nation needs a huge reset. We need to revisit this road map which begun with the National Goals and Directive Principles adopted on 16 September 1975, realize where we have gone wrong, and for the sake of national interest, choose a better path for the common good. Naysayers may say whatever, but we will get there one day, even if it’s another 50 years from now. Happy 49th Independence anniversary beloved motherland!✊🏾🇵🇬

Some interesting facts about St. Patrick’s Day: St. Patrick’s Origin: Despite being the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick was actually born in Britain. He was captured into slavery and taken to Ireland, where he later returned as a Christian missionary. No Snakes in Ireland: The story of St. Patrick driving snakes out of Ireland is a myth. In reality, Ireland has never had any native snake species to begin with. Leprechauns and Fairies: The leprechaun, often associated with St. Patrick’s Day, is derived from Celtic folklore. These ‘small-bodied fellows’ were believed to be fairies and were known for their shoemaking skills. “The Luck of the Irish” is a phrase that originally emerged in America during the gold and silver rush eras, when Irish miners were often successful in their endeavors. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not an old Irish saying but an American one, and it was initially used in a somewhat derogatory way to attribute the Irish miners’ successes to luck rather than their hard work. Over time, the phrase has taken on a more positive connotation, celebrating the Irish for their perceived good fortune and resilience, especially in the face of adversity. Today, it’s commonly used to express good luck and is often associated with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Freemasonry exists to inculcate values in a good man to make him a better person. For 300 years we have existed and over this period, some Freemasons have stood taller than others. Not only for their masonic virtues but for the huge contributions they left in society which contributions to Education, Science and the Arts continue to aid, benefit, influence and inspire long after these people were gone. A few star mason names come to mind: Sir Benjamin Franklin, Sir Winston Churchill, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Nelson Mandela, George Washington, Buzz Aldrin, King George VI,Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and H.R.H. Prince Philip. There are hundreds of others whose knowledge, skills or orchestrations contributed to Humanity in significant ways, not including the billions donated to worldly and worthy philanthropic causes benefitting mostly the sick, poor and vulnerable members of our societies. But still, speculation based on figments of fertile imagination often leads others to believe in ficticious narratives and old wives tales that have been spun for so long that they begin to, paradoxically, stand as an imaginary Truth. Just because we dont share our traditions, customs or details of our lessons on the philosophy of Life in the public domain, doesn't mean our conspiracy theorists are right. Some topics ought to be left to be discussed only by those in the know.
