Winning the 3rd place (bronze) 🥉 can be such a strange and awkward feeling. It feels extremely complicated because the bronze is so far away from the 1st (gold)🥇and not even the 2nd (silver)🥈. Can really empathise with Max Maeder when he said he was trying to digest his win of the Olympic bronze medal 🥉 yesterday after several tough races under poor weather conditions for a few days, causing a lot of delay and putting the contestants to the test. This resulted in changing strategies like using a smaller kite for at least one contestant. Had personally experienced two good fights for consecutive years against stronger competitors who took the gold and silver spots, leaving me the 3rd place🥉. Similar to how these athletes and many others, in life, there will always be others that are better and factors that come into play during a competition or a situation, just like what Maximilian Maeder went through at the international stage when he is 17 (kudos to him for keeping cool!) Factors such as Internal factors 1. Mental state of mind 2. Readiness 3. Skills and level of competency External factors 1. Environmental conditions - bad weather, faulty equipment, limited opportunities 2. Unexpected conditions - During my 2nd competition, the giant spot light facing me shattered during my 3-minute story and everyone (including judges) was distracted for a while as glass pieces flew into the audience. The important lesson here is to stay focused, remain calm, be composed and carry on whatever happens, try our best and put in the best effort regardless of how others do and what the circumstances are. Very thankfully, in a subsequent competition with contestants I sparred with earlier, I brought back the trophy for the 1st place (gold)🥇 eventually. The sporting summer continues.... The Olympics are in full swing and I'm making my wife watch it continuously whilst we enjoy some child-free time and the boys are with grandparents! So whilst I work and watch the Triathlon this morning, which athletes saw the largest YoY demand increases last week? This will constantly change over the next two weeks of course but diving, rowing and skateboarding all feature highly at the moment which is unsurprising based on the schedule. As the Tour de France 🇫🇷🚴 draws to a close this year, it's been a race full of unforgettable moments. Some highlights for me include: 🥇 Romain Bardet winning stage 1 and donning this year’s first yellow jersey 🚴♂️ Mark Cavendish achieving his record-breaking 35th stage win 😢 Victor Campenaerts’ emotional stage winner’s interview 🔥 Jonas Vingegaard outsprinting Tadej Pogačar 🌟 Remco Evenepoel proving his worth as a strong contender However, there’s one story that deserves more attention is that of Uno-X Mobility rider Jonas Abrahamsen. In a weight-obsessed sport, Abrahamsen took an unconventional path. Once weighing just 60kg, he struggled to perform at his best. However, upon securing a two-year contract with Uno-X, he embarked on a plan to gain weight gradually, reaching around 80kg. The remarkable fact about this transformation is that it allowed him to increase his peak power from 900 watts to 1,500 watts, making him a more versatile and powerful rider. His improved performance led to leading the Tour de Pologne for two days and achieving a career-best bronze in the Norwegian road race championships. And while all of this could be deemed old news, it’s only thanks to Abrahamsen constant presence at the front of the peloton during the first week of the tour, not looking like a super featherweight that most spectators believe the wearer of polka dot jersey should be. So what does this mean for the rest of us? Hopefully it's finally time to dispel the myth that you can only eat brown rice, grilled chicken and broccoli in measured amounts - and enjoy that mid-ride slice of cake knowing you’re not doing any serious harm to your power. Olympic athletes are just different. On the left of the picture, in a blue polo shirt, is Daniel Martin Dockx, Spain's favorite dressage athlete for this Olympics. After delivering two fantastic seasons on his PRE, Malagueño, they were the only clear team member for Paris. On the right, riding the horse, is Claudio Castilla, the reserve rider for Spain. The story behind this picture? It’s a masterclass in grace. If you've ever worked with horses, you know how quickly things can go south. That’s exactly what happened. Upon arrival, Dani's horse, Malagueño, developed some swelling on his neck, failed the first horse inspection, and despite all efforts, didn’t improve. The team decided not to present the stallion for re-inspection. Imagine this: competing against your teammates for years, keeping yourself and your horse injury-free, earning a spot on the Olympic team, only for things to fall apart at the last minute. The schedule was already out, so the reserve pair, Claudio Castilla and Hi Rico, took Dani’s and Malagueño’s spot. Another athlete might have been jealous, upset, or thrown a tantrum. But Dani? Just look at the picture. He celebrated Claudio’s performance with pure joy and unwavering support. Almost 200,000 spectators at the MotoGP race in Jerez, Spain. (you can fill Camp Nou in Bacelona 2 times...) The highest attended event in MotoGP™ history. A sea of fans flooded the circuit and the city. The infectious passion for MotoGP was everywhere. Fans were everywhere. ✅ A testament to the sport's dynamic, entertaining and exhilarating nature. Beyond the track, the escalating audience figures and the historic turnout at the Spanish GP are indicative of the flourishing time the sport is currently enjoying. The passion and sense of community that fans showed is something truly special. A unique opportunity for brands.
