Glad everyone is safe first and foremost. In case there are other aviation nerds that like to dive deeper into these things, I'll share a little background of the 767. 767 Landing gears are a bit unusual. The MLG is tilted around 20 degrees forward. (exact degree may be 17-20 but I can't remember at this moment). The design team noticed that the nose kept pitching down on landing so that is why they are pitched that way. Turns out that the bogies (attachment assembly of landing gears that has more than 2 wheels) had less stress and strain on them because of the pitch design and a much smoother landing. Now that is how I remember it being explained and read up on it awhile ago. However, I also remember having heard that it was designed this way to fit in the tighter wheel wells. Both could be true, or either one. During this time of design, focus was on the fuel efficiency because of economic conditions and the oil market. Not sure how much that effected the design. You are going to find debates about this topic everywhere you see a gathering of aviation folks. It's almost always going to come up at some point. 🙂

Correct but bit late for damage control. We've all seen the images and I guarantee Delta has lost and will continue to lose passengers. My company handles PR and Reputation Management for numerous global carriers where this type of practice would never be tolerated. Crisis Management is essential in any PR strategy, but the fact that political allegiances were allowed for cabin staff is simply unacceptable. The term 'cockpit' originally comes from nautical terms. In the 16th and 17th centuries, this area, located at the lowest deck of warships, served both as a seating place for rowers and as a treatment area for the injured. Additionally, it was used as a social space for ship personnel to engage in fighting and gambling games. Over time, the control center of airplanes also began to be called the 'cockpit'. This naming can be associated with the fact that airplane cockpits, like those on ships, are narrow and cramped spaces.
