💡You asked, and Train Manager, Benjamin, responded! 🙋 “I’ve been in the railway industry for 20 years, and I’m proud to be an ambassador for the Eurostar service charter. But would you believe I initially began my career in women's footwear? 😊 What I cherish most about my job is the social aspect and the connections I make with people. I was so happy to see all your questions on my last post, and I've chosen a few to respond to!”

Our station manager, Annais E., was thrilled to #interview such a passionate #athlete! "This is so unique. 🥇 Today marks a historic moment for us. We unveiled our #goldentrain to celebrate our Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Joined by the inspirational Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, ParalympicsGB double gold medallist Maisie Summers-Newton, and former Team GB athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton, we christened our special train at London St Pancras International. This morning’s event highlighted our role as the official travel partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Our golden train will offer travellers a medal-worthy journey to Paris and back. And because we expect 2 million passengers this summer, we’ve added extra trains on our London to Paris route during peak days. As we countdown to the #Olympics and #Paralympics, we're proud to support over 2,000 athletes and staff from Team GB, ParalympicsGB, Paralympic Team Belgium, Team Belgium, NOC*NSF, and Team Deutschland. 📸 Pierre Caudevelle

My interest in ecological issues began in my childhood in Brittany, where cleaning beaches was a common school activity and beach erosion was a visible reality. For example, near my home, there was a lovely house on a dune that everyone knew. One day, coming back from school, the house was gone. It risked collapsing as the dune eroded, so it had to be demolished. Later, during my studies, faced with the urgency of the climate situation, it was no longer enough for me to simply do my bit on a day-to-day basis. I wanted to do more and play a part in building a sustainable future. From there, I knew I wanted a career in Sustainability and chose to study economics and management, realizing that in a capitalist world, you need to understand the rules of the game to make changes. At Eurostar, where I've been working for almost three years in the sustainability team, I focus on circularity – tracking products from purchase through use to waste management and recycling. My work spans all levels of the company: from the furniture we choose and the food offered on board, to how we clean our trains. The goal? To minimize our environmental impact as much as possible. With around 19 million passengers, Eurostar has a real opportunity to lead by example. To young people interested in this field, I say: believe in it. Many companies are ready to change, even the most polluting ones, as they need us the most and their impact can be the greatest. The important thing is to move in the right direction. In the end, a multitude of small imperfect changes are worth more than one perfect change. Claire, Sustainability & Circularity Specialist.
