European space can dominate the commercial satellite launch market again IF they make the right, but tough choices. But to make those right, but tough choices, they have to first ask the right, but tough questions: “Does a single solid rocket on the Ariane 6 and Vega-C really cost €20 million?” “So that the two on the Ariane 62 cost €40 million, and the four on the Ariane 64 cost €80 million?” “So that €80 million of the recommended €115 million price of the Ariane 64 is due just to the SRB’s alone?” But ESA is lacking the *independent* oversight to be forced to ask these questions. In effect, ESA serves as the oversight agency of itself: Towards return of Europe to dominance of the launch market, Page 2: ESA needs an independent oversight agency.

Vega-C Zefiro40 Test: Independent Enquiry Commission announces conclusions https://lnkd.in/eDu9EtF Following the failure of the Vega-C launch (VV22) in December 2022, an Independent Enquiry Commission drew several conclusions and made recommendations to ensure a reliable return to flight and a robust exploitation. One of the recommendations was to implement a (delta-)qualification of the nozzle with a new Carbon-Carbon throat insert material different from that previously used on the Zefiro40, the solid rocket booster of the Vega-C second stage. On 28 June 2023, a static firing test of the modified Zefiro40 engine took place at the test bench in Salto di Quirra in Italy. During the test the engine nozzle suffered significant damages. ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher has set up an Independent Enquiry Commission chaired by the ESA Inspector General, Giovanni Colangelo, and composed of experts from CNES, ASI, ESA, Arianespace and academia to understand the cause of the test anomaly and propose recommendations. #OPORTUNIDADES DE #NEGOCIO EN EL PUERTO ESPACIAL EUROPEO DE KURÚ, EN #GUAYANA. The Centre Spatial Guyanais (#CSG), also known as #Europe’s #Spaceport, is modernising alongside ESA’s cutting-edge launch vehicles Vega-C and Ariane 6. Today we are preparing for its #digital #transformation and need European space and non-space companies to join the initiative. It is expected that there will be approximately 40 different #digitalisation activities to implement, with a combined budget of 40-45 MEUR.

On July 4th 2023 #ESA and Centre National d'Études Spatiales co-hosted an event on this subject. While this event had a focus on the initial Technical Support activities, the high-level information (including how to work with ESA and CNES) is valid for all. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eNAgZZnr

Time to build zero-debris satellites 🛰️ European Space Agency - ESA is committed ✅ to deliver on the promise of Zero Debris by 2030. To ensure compliant satellites can be designed and built in time, ESA is supporting 🤝🏻 industry during this technologically challenging transition. On 25 June 2024, three major 🇪🇺 European space industry players each signed a contract with ESA to develop large low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite platforms that conform to Zero Debris standards. Airbus Defence and Space, OHB and Thales Alenia Space will design and develop zero-debris platforms for large LEO satellites as a first step towards building zero-debris production lines. Absolutely correct. Applies to launch vehicles as well.
