Earlier this week, the European Small Volume Car Manufacturers Alliance (ESCA) met for our Q2 Meeting in Woking, England. We would like to thank Helen Foord and McLaren Automotive Ltd for hosting and providing a wonderful day for all our members. Throughout the meeting, members engaged in insightful discussions about the recent EU Election outcomes and the upcoming UK General Election, analysing their potential impacts on the automotive industry and specifically on small volume manufacturers. During the discussion, members also tackled crucial policy issues, diving deep into the implementation of Euro 7, the General Safety Regulation, and the Regulation on Batteries and Waste Batteries.

The yesterday PMW visit with my friend were very successfull! The read in the new MSA,too! In the MSA i could read above the final plans from the F.I.A in behalf to the 26 er F1 Rules! The problem is,that the planed rule changes brings not really something! So the idea was born in my head,to build a constructive bridge between the F.I.A and my suggestion! The problem is,that the cut in inside the rules are extreme big,so a complete new car must develop and because of that, the rules must be fix so fast as possible“tempus fugit!“! And the F.I.A should use Andretti as develpmentteam for the new cars in change for the teamplace! Reason! The ither teams are involved in the 24/25 er season and have not the ressources to develop in two lines! So Andretti can support F.I.A and the development on the 26 er cars

ESCA President and McLaren Group Head of Global Government Affairs Helen Foord has given some key insights into what membership of ESCA means for a small-volume manufacturer (SVM) like McLaren in the following Q&A: 1) How does membership of ESCA benefit McLaren? Membership of ESCA provides McLaren with a platform to voice the Ultra/Small Volume Manufacturers (U/SVM) industry position directly to key policymakers, recognising the diverse nature of the industry and providing clarity on the nuances between U/SVM positions and that of mass market OEMs. 2) What are McLaren’s priorities for the next few years? Building on the success of our existing high-performance hybrid technologies, over 90% of McLaren supercars will have some form of electrification within the next five years as we explore the potential for a pure EV that is true to the McLaren brand DNA. Growing a sustainable business model is a key aim for McLaren, including an effective environmental strategy. 3) What do you see as the major issues facing the European automotive sector over the coming years? There are multiple challenges for the European automotive sector over the coming years, to name a few challenges; electrifying localised supply chain, data sharing, and the multiple ways to decarbonise vehicles and fuels. There is never a dull moment in the automotive industry. 4) What would you like to see from European legislators? We would like to see greater flexibility within regulations, recognising the different challenges of different parts of the automotive industry. It is also important to see purpose-led regulation, with a clear social or environmental goal, developed in collaboration with industry – we can make better regulation when we work together with policymakers. #automotive #supercars #innovation #europeancars #luxurycars #manufacturing

In April, new car registrations in the United Kingdom continued their upward trajectory for the 21st consecutive month, marking a modest 1.0 per cent increase to reach 134,274 units, according to the latest data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Despite this positive momentum, the market still lags behind pre-pandemic levels by 16.6 per cent, albeit showing resilience in what is traditionally a low-volume month post-March plate change. https://buff.ly/3QzyJ7E

If the UK is serious about growth, the automotive sector can be the driving force so this week’s 16th SMMT International Automotive Summit sent that message loud and clear. SMMT’s Vision 2035 plan, launched at the event, sets out the contribution the UK auto industry can make to the UK economy. With the right policies in place, our sector has the potential to deliver growth worth £50 billion over the next decade, at the same time replacing more than 17 million fossil fuel cars with zero emission ones and making more than a million of them here in Britain every year. Read my Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Update this week looking at why a new government needs to work in partnership with industry to address these challenges. https://lnkd.in/evMvbTNS
