At Lasker we have done a report summarizing the main highlights of the EU elections and analysing the main outcomes of the 5 largest Member States. In these elections there has been a relevant shift towards right-wing formations. EPP, ECR and ID increases seats while Socialists, Liberals, Greens and the Left reduce their number of MEPs. Will the EPP, Socialists and Liberals lead a coalition to face the increase of euroscepticism in this new legislative term to come? How important will the green policies be in Europe’s agenda given the Greens defeat? Don’t miss our report.

IGA has contributed to the newly released report MEPs from Central Europe: A Bulwark Against Authoritarianism, published by Political Capital. The publication examines the voting stances of MEPs from 7 Central European countries (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Bulgaria and Romania) on resolutions condemning authoritarian regime actions around the world, particularly the regimes in Russia and China, over the course of the 2019-2024 term of the European Parliament. Check out the report to find out about the most and least Moscow- and Beijing-critical MEPs and why the Bulgarian Socialist Party stands out among its Bulgarian counterparts in "soft" defending autocratic policies. https://lnkd.in/dWJQJXnT

The European Parliament has just voted in favour of severely weakening the Member States of the EU. The massive transfer of competences to the EU level forced through today is an act of radical centralisation, which would transform the EU de facto into an oligarchic super state, escaping democratic control. This assault on national sovereignty must be stopped. #EU #Treaties #NOtoTreatyChange #EuropeanUnion #Sovereignty

Political volatility in Guinea-Bissau has deeper roots than electoral calendar machinations. It has an institutional and constitutional nature and is driven by the unresolved tensions regarding the powers of the president, the national assembly and the judiciary – all playing out amid attempts to “presidentialize” the regime.
