Today in Budapest, the Council of the European Union's Ministers gathered for an informal meeting to discuss crucial aspects of competitiveness in the EU 📢 During today's discussions, the ministers focused on electric vehicle (#EV) production, the Antwerp Declaration, and the implications of Enrico Letta’s recent report on strengthening Europe's Single Market. A few months ago, we have signed the Antwerp Declaration to show our commitment to strengthening #competitiveness, promoting sustainability, fostering innovation, and addressing global challenges such as energy costs and market dynamics that impact our industry. As part of this dialogue, we want to stress our support for creating a strong EU Competitiveness Deal that builds on the European Green Deal. We look forward to working with the new European Commission on these initiatives towards a greener, prosperous, and more competitive Europe. Together, we can ensure that the future of clean and cutting-edge technology is made in Europe 🦾. The Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal has caught my attention (see below). It is a strategy aimed at enhancing Europe's competitiveness and resilience against global business partners and rivals. The declaration covers a wide range of topics (it really boils the ocean)which is typical of European strategies. I can agree with the sentiment, but some of the declarations read more like a wish than a roadmap to reality, e.g. 2️⃣, 3️⃣, 5️⃣ & 6️⃣… The word ‘Europe’ is being used vaguely here. CEE is more for production, while WE is more for business and R&D. However, a comprehensive strategy should include both perspectives to "make Europe great again"…or at least to make it really competitive! Declaration calls to Member State Governments, the next European Commission, and Parliament to: 1️⃣ Put the Industrial Deal at the core of the new European Strategic Agenda for 2024-2029. 2️⃣ Include a strong public funding chapter with a Clean Tech Deployment Fund. 3️⃣ Make Europe a globally competitive provider of energy. 4️⃣ Focus on the infrastructure Europe needs. 5️⃣ Increase the EU’s raw materials security. 6️⃣ Boost demand for net zero, low carbon and circular products. 7️⃣ Leverage, enforce, revive and improve the Single Market. 8️⃣ Make the innovation framework smarter. 9️⃣ A new spirit of law-making. 🔟 Ensure the structure allows to achieve results. https://lnkd.in/e5id9V9w
