👏 Yesterday, Monica Frassoni, President of EUASE, participated in two sessions at #EUSEW2024! Let's look at the main topics discussed: The session explored #competitiveness and industrial energy efficiency, featuring Commissioner Kadri Simson, IEA’s Brian Motherway, Paula Pinho, Erich Labuda, Volker Ratzmann, and Marco Baresi and was moderated by Ramya Krishnaswamy from World Economic Forum. 🤝 During the discussion, it was highlighted that #energysystemefficiency is a key asset for achieving a #sustainable and #competitive Europe. The panelists encouraged the continuation of the #GreenDeal for the European industry, while fostering green skills for job creation in the industry. 👉 On the other hand, the panel involving Methchild Wörsdörfer and Matthew Baldwin from DG Energy, Irene Huarte, Johannes Luebking, and Pierre Vanheuverzwijn discussed recovery and resilience plans accelerating the #energytransition. Here are some of the issues adressed: ⚡Challenges such as extending the Next Generation EU. 📄 Regulatory fragmentation in the Green Deal and cultural barriers to #energyefficiency. 🔝 The need to foster private investments and integrate the #EE1st principle throughout the energy system while keeping it a top priority.

#EUSEW2024 | How EU regulation helps investing in the energy transition? Buildings are the single largest energy consumer in Europe. The building sector is therefore crucial to achieving the EU's energy and climate goals. Act today on building is even more important because 85% of EU building stock was built before 2000 and 75% have a poor energy performance. The EU has established a legislative framework, the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), which is helping in reducing the climate impact of the building sector. Under the EPBD, the Energy performance certificate (EPC) is becoming a corner stone of the energy transition by allowing to identify potential future stranded assets. EU regulatory environment is still facing challenges. EPCs are lacking comparability and reliability. It is therefore important to have harmonization of energy performance certificates accross Europe because other frameworks used by investors, such as the EU Taxonomy, now rely on such systems to deploy its standards for buildings. During this conference I was invited to share a concrete case study on how EU policy has helped support investments towards Europe’s clean energy transition. Our Dutch mortgage strategy designed and managed by Dynamic Credit requires properties to have an energy label C or better. Less energy efficient properties require an improvement plan to aim for upgrading to energy label C or better. Our strategy will actively contribute to improving the energy efficiency of the Dutch housing stock. The opening of the Innovation Fund 2023 call for proposals with a record budget of €4 billion is a significant opportunity for net-zero technology projects. The increased funds and the doubling allocation for cleantech manufacturing projects are excellent. This will undoubtedly strengthen Europe's industrial manufacturing capacity, technology leadership, and supply chain resilience. The commitment to supporting the deployment of innovative decarbonisation technologies is crucial in our pursuit of a more sustainable future. We can significantly reduce our carbon footprint by cutting greenhouse emissions and investing in clean energy. It's encouraging to see that this call is fully funded by EU Emissions Trading System revenues, showing the importance of carbon pricing in driving the green transition. I'm particularly excited about the focus on cleantech manufacturing projects. This will drive the development and deployment of innovative technologies and play a vital role in creating jobs and boosting economic growth. The increased budget allocation for these projects clearly recognises their importance to the European economy. This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in making a difference and contributing to the net-zero goal. The deadline of 9 April 2024 is approaching, so I encourage everyone to explore the proposal and consider applying. With €4 billion in funding available, there is significant potential for impactful projects to be supported. I'm confident that the Innovation Fund 2023 will pave the way for groundbreaking projects. Let's join forces, tap into this funding opportunity, and drive the adoption of net-zero technology projects forward. We can forge a brighter, more sustainable future for Europe and beyond.

One year ago, at the Munich Security Conference we kicked-off the Energy Resilience Leadership Group with the aim of strengthening Europe's energy resilience by rapidly bringing climate technologies to scale. Today, one year later, we regrouped again in Munich having brought together high-level representatives from politics, finance and business. In that time we have supported eight major cleantech projects in industry, power and buildings that will reduce Europe's gas consumption. But still: We see huge challenges in two areas: securing Europe’s energy infrastructure and expanding future technologies by overcoming the current political, financial and economic hurdles. That is what we discussed here today and will continue to do so over the weekend. I will share more on the matter in form of an article in the coming days. Thank you to the prime minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo and of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, and German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck for your presence today. Thank you Ann Mettler for the great organization and bringing us together. #MSC2024 #energyresilience #europe

Calls for the Innovation Fund are open! 📢 European Commission opened two calls for proposals to accelerate the deployment of innovative technologies in various sectors such as clean tech manufacturing and energy-intensive industries. The calls will make up to €4.8 billion available for industry and clean tech players in Europe to support the objectives of the European Green Deal and the #NZIA. These funds aid in the decarbonisation of industries like #aluminium and provide financial support for R&D projects which include development of more efficient production processes, recycling technologies, and sustainable materials. 💡 As outlined in our report "Net-Zero by 2050: Science-based Decarbonisation Pathways for the European Aluminium Industry”, funding breakthrough technologies to decarbonise our value chain is crucial to reaching #netzero emissions by 2050. 📖 Read our report ➡ https://lnkd.in/eEHXfWBh #innovationfund #aluminium #NZIA #decarbonisation

Promoting Safe and Sustainable Shipping through International Cooperation, Chair of the IMO MASS Working Groups and Senior advisor at the Swedish Transport Agency (LL.M.)
Had the pleasure to host my Nordic colleagues in Stockholm yesterday, for a Nordic Roadmap Steering Group meeting – fab to see you all in the flesh Sofie Hvid Rasmussen, Eero Hokkanen, Ida Ringdal Lindtvedt and Sveinung Oftedal. We discussed the Nordic Fuel Transition Roadmap and we had projets leads Dorthe Alida Slotvik from DNV and Denis Cederholm-Larsen from MAN Energy Solutions present to discuss e.g. the Roadmap recommendations. The Roadmap was initiated by the The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council in 2022 and is a response to e.g. the 2023 GHG Strategy och the International Maritime Organization and the ambition of the Roadmap is for the Nordics to become a global force for accelerating the green transition of the transport sector. It preliminary identifies three main barriers for the uptake of zero-emission fuels for Nordic shipping as follows: technology and safety; fuel availability; demand and costs. Maybe not surprising, but we got a clear message from industry on actions needed; all stakeholders must come together – industry, governments, academia, financial institutions.. See here for more information about the Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/d3Htmrx6 The handover to the Nordic Council Ministers is planned for December 2024 – stay tuned y’all!
