🟢 #Energyefficiency is central to the energy transition and clean-tech revolution. It is an ecosystem that needs to be recognized by the European Commission as a driver for growth, job creation and innovation in #Europe as well as essential to increase EU #competitiveness. Nikolaus J. Kurmayer was inspired by session III at European Energy Efficiency Day 2023 and wrote this piece about it. A very useful contribution ahead of the Net Zero Industry Act (#NZIA) vote in European Parliament on 25 October and food for thought in view of a longer term advocacy effort to convince DG GROW that energy efficiency must become one of the industrial ecosystems recognised in the EU industrial strategy. 🤝 Today, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy met and held a structured dialogue with Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Maroš Šefčovič focusing on the main achievements of the current EU institutions and the challenges for the next. ➡Šefčovič outlined 5 key priorities for the next mandate, including the need for full implementation of the agreed legislation across all member states and reducing energy bills for household and industry via energy autonomy, among others. ➡ On the topic of implementation, Member of Parliament Niels Fuglsang shared concerns that as they stand now, the contributions presented by Member States would not be enough to achieve the EU 2030 energy efficiency target of 11.7% set by the #EED. He therefore asked the Commission to be strict and follow-up. We welcome and echo these statements, as the implementation of frameworks such as the #EED, particularly via fully compliant NECPs, is essential to achieving Europe's energy security and climate objectives. 👏
