This is a really insightful piece that highlights the chasm between words and deeds when it comes to the UK government support for international trade in the food industry. I have seen this from both sides having exhibited with the UK pavilion in Paris and Chicago and with the Italian Pavilion in London and Cologne. The difference between the two is like night and day. Never mind Liz the lettuce announcing her trip to Beijing to "open new pork markets" and that the UK importing EU cheese is a "disgrace", the truth is that the UK government talks a great game when it comes to supporting the industry internationally but it stops there. The Italian government (and others) by contrast invests heavily in international trade activity, supporting funding for even the smallest producers to exhibit at major international events, showcasing them on a level playing field with many of their larger competitors. So much for the post Brexit sunlit uplands, its more like rain soaked gloomy lowlands. The UK food industry has so much to offer and it is a crying shame that the government cant back it's rhetoric with any meaningful action.

As EURO 2024 heats up, a key question on everyone's mind is whether consumers are heading to Pubs & Bars 🍻 or opting to watch the games at home 🏠. Hospitality Data Insights (HDI) latest market price tracker shows that Draught Beer & Cider prices have risen by 5.7% year-on-year 📈, which translates to an additional 25p per pint 🍺. Meanwhile, inflation in the Big 4 Grocers is at 4.3% year-on-year 🛒, adding just 5p per drink. Essentially, the cost of drinking out is increasing at five times the rate of drinking at home 🍻🏠. With this growing price gap between On and Off Trade, the need for Pubs & Bars to deliver “value for experience” is more important than ever. Let's hope England's performances continue to improve ⚽, ensuring that visits to Pubs & Bars are seen as worthwhile despite the widening price difference 📊. More insights to follow in the coming days, including how Pubs & Bars have been adjusting their pricing during England games and the overall trends in the UK Hospitality Market. Unfortunately, British Food Exporters are finding hard to sell overseas since Brexit, and Asia is proving to be a difficult sell for some. But when it was easy to sell within the EU, were these Exporter's just lazy to look at new markets then? and now it is more of a requirement to keep up with the others to get a grasp on other markets? But it is not just Food Exporter's that have found it difficult since Brexit to bring to market their goods into foreign shores. Sometimes these types of trade shows work, sometimes it is just a glorified event for different teams from companies to get together for a break away some would say. My bit of advice for anyone who would have wants to showcase food in Singapore would be to set something up in a local Coffee Shop or Hawker Centre and hear what the real general public thinks. If you give away free food you will be inundated with eager willing particpants to try. Whether you are a food exporter, or exporter of any product and are looking at the Singapore or wider South East Asian market to bring your goods to foreign shores; or your are local to SEA and want to bring your products to UK shores, be in touch directly with myself or via or [email protected] for a discussion on how are group companies can help your organisation. https://lnkd.in/gkx_QhMb
