We have updated our analysis of the EU’s National Energy & Climate Plans! 🌍 Our comprehensive review has been expanded to include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Ireland, Latvia, and Poland, whose NECPs or drafts have become available since our last release. 🔍 This updated analysis delves into how these Member States are addressing CCS based on the European Commission’s recommendations. ❗ While most Member States acknowledge the necessity of CCS for achieving full decarbonisation, our verdict remains: acknowledgement of its necessity isn’t enough at this point. ❗❗ There is a substantial need for NECPs to provide detailed and fleshed out strategies on deploying CCS effectively for decarbonising hard-to-abate industries. ❗❗❗We urge EU Member States to address how CCS will contribute to their countries’ decarbonisation efforts in line with the European Commission’s recommendations! 📖 Read our now complete report here: https://lnkd.in/d6gn8MaE #CCS #CCS4NetZeroIndustry #ClimateAction #EUEnvironment #NECP #climateactionnow #industrialdecarbonisation

Switzerland and Norway’s respective governments have signed a Declaration of Intent, which has been designed to strengthen the two countries cooperation over CCS and carbon dioxide removal. Both of these countries have shown large ambition when it comes to climate and energy policies and meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. It has already been stated that in order for Europe and the world to reach their climate targets, a lot of climate measures are required and this includes CCS and CDR. The article below discusses the importance of CCS and CDR to both countries, who have made it clear through this agreement that this is one of their priorities. It is through this agreement and a host of other activities that show the two companies commitment to this project. The European Union (EU) is taking decisive actions to significantly reduce its reliance on fossil gas, driven by a combination of geopolitical considerations and its climate objectives. The rapid deployment of #RenewableEnergy sources and heat pumps is already impacting gas consumption patterns. However, although the current legislative measures put the EU on a path to reducing gas demand by 30%, the real-world transition is happening even faster and is not without challenges. The revision of the National Energy and Climate Plans (#NECPs) is a crucial step to overcome those challenges and ensure a smooth and ambitious transition. Indeed, the European Commission’s guidance for NECPs emphasizes alignment with the latest EU climate and energy legislation, including the #FitFor55 package and the #REPowerEU initiative. To promote a transition that aligns with EU climate and REPowerEU goals, E3G has proposed seven benchmarks to help evaluate whether NECPs effectively support a long-term transition of the #GasSector while ensuring infrastructure plans align with the broader vision of a greener and more sustainable energy future. Check the benchmarks to determine whether NECPs support a smooth #GasTransition proposed by Raphael Hanoteaux👇 https://lnkd.in/em5Pu7tB

🚨 Exciting news! 15 Member States sent an open-letter to the European Commission recalling the significant role that #heating and cooling sector has to play in achieving EU's 2040 climate ambitions! They call on the Commission to unlock the significant potential of #energyefficiency and renewable energy sources for the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector in general and district systems in particular. 🌟 We strongly support this initiative and firmly believe that scaling-up efficient clean heat solutions will not only ensure that the EU reaches its climate goals, but also contribute to energy security, reduced energy poverty as well as energy system integration, sector coupling and increased flexibility.
