𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦 In the United States, community connections are in crisis. For the past half-century, engagement in civic and social organizations has dropped off drastically: a 50% decline in the number of times Americans attended a club meeting the previous year; a 66% decline in union membership; and a 40% decline in the number of Americans who attended even one public meeting in the previous year. In his seminal work 𝗕𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲, Harvard University professor Robert D. Putnam brought to light the sharp decline in social capital in the United States— painting a powerful picture of the impact on American society. Dear All! We wish you a very Happy New Year 2024! 🎊 Humanity is moving forward, facing increasingly complex problems. To break out of this vicious cycle, you need to understand the nature of these challenges and reorganize your life accordingly. This reorganization should aim to transform difficulties into opportunities that promote unity and harmony with universal nature. In such an ideal world, we will not lack for anything; the most important thing is the positive, balanced interaction of all natural forces. If we could bring the various elements together through positive interaction rather than conflict, our perception would shift from the present world to a more elevated existence resembling the Garden of Eden. The way forward involves a collective desire to activate our inherent good powers and establish positive relationships. Each person has a spark of these powers, and a combined effort to do good can make a big difference. As we enter 2024, it’s time to reflect on our past approaches and realize that the only effective solution is to keep each other well connected. We need to support each other with positive thoughts, promoting mutual participation, support, unity and love. We must prevent anger and conflict. Achieving this could make 2024 a pivotal year in improving family dynamics, international relations and global unity. Such a shift can bring balance to nature, calming seemingly opposing forces and restoring harmony. To the entire world, we wish the new year to delve deeper into improving relationships and expanding our circle of support to make a positive difference around the world. We hope that in the new year, all humanity will achieve love, unity and collective harmony that transcends all differences. This approach is the key to solving our problems. 2023 unfurls as a captivating tapestry of change and rejuvenation, weaving together threads of the past’s lessons with the possibilities of the future. As we traverse this unique juncture, it’s evident that our world is not merely changing—it’s evolving.

As Jax Davey heads towards the halfway mark on his incredible Ice Ultra adventure, a very big thought occurred to us. What did climate change ever do for us? Benedict Robb, CEO of Forces Horizon - a client of ours, recently visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington DC where there was an exhibition on human evolution during past climate crises. He shared some facts. Many times in the lives of our ancestors, the climate dramatically cooled and they lived through many near-extinction events. Each period became a population bottleneck, eliminating the vast proportion of their relatives. As William H. Calvin writes in his excellent book - A Brain for All Seasons - “we are the improbable descendants of those who survived”. Each hominid generation had to culturally adapt to the shifting milieu. Isn’t this all starting to sound strangely familiar? How did they do it? Human evolution started about 5-6 million years ago. This ancestor looked a lot like the chimpanzee and probably had a 500ml brain capacity and occasional upright posture. The first departure from this physiological form was more than likely down to behavioural change – but as William H. Calvin astutely observes “behaviour doesn’t fossilise very well”! Our ancestors adapted through knee and hip changes and to fully two-legged locomotion. When the ice ages began, so did more sophisticated toolmaking and with that brains began to enlarge and reorganise. So, our human evolution breaks into two halves – each several million years long: The 1st Half: A period of evolution to two-legged mobility – and God only knows what else! The 2nd Half: A period of toolmaking and brain enlargement – including language development and planning capability. The conclusion: it’s official! The ice ages had a direct impact on increased brain size and capacity. This got us thinking. What if we looked at climate change as a catalyst to help us evolve again. And what if…we leant on science and data more to enable these changes to accelerate? We can all do this by using cultural moments and trends to engage audiences in different ways.
