💥 Big news for the floating offshore wind sector in the UK, as the world’s first dedicated innovation centre for floating offshore wind was opened in Aberdeen. The Floating Wind Innovation Centre (#FLOWIC) will support developers, operators, equipment manufacturers, supply chain companies and innovators with research, test, deployment and validation in relation to offshore wind. It will also allow companies to develop and de-risk many of the #innovative technologies essential to the future success of the sector. With more than 19GW of potential projects in the pipeline, the facility will be of huge value to the sector. Eolus has taken full ownership of the SeaSapphire floating wind joint venture that was originally established with Simply Blue Group. Eolus and Simply Blue Group formed SeaSapphire in 2022 to jointly develop floating offshore wind projects in the Nordics, with the cooperation so far result in a number of projects in Sweden and Finland that are in the early stages of development. ‘Following a strategic review of its global project portfolio, Simply Blue has decided to withdraw from the Nordics and, under mutually agreed terms, will transfer its 50% share to Eolus in exchange for a future profit-sharing mechanism,’ read a company statement this week. “As we turn our focus to other markets, we would like to wish Eolus every success in the continued development of the SeaSapphire projects,” commented Hugh Kelly, Co-CEO of Simply Blue Group. Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus, nted: “We see long-term potential in offshore wind power based on floating technologies, given the expected significant increase in electricity demand over the coming decades. We intend to develop the projects at a pace aligned with the maturity and cost competitiveness of the floating technology.” The deal is subject to the approval of the Swedish Inspectorate of Strategic Products. #cleanenergy

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the 4-day #WindEnergy conference in Hamburg focused on everything that has any connection to offshore wind power, where I along with my colleagues Peter Busch Nielsen, Daniel Noermark, Tim Fischer, Andreas Willecke, Sonja Voigt, Denis Matha and many others represented Wind and OSS for Ramboll. It was an inspiring and informative event, bringing together industry leaders to discuss the future of #renewable #energy and #sustainable practices in Offshore Wind. A consortium between Elicio and BayWa r.e. EMEA has won the AO5 tender in France to develop and operate the country’s first floating offshore wind farm, the 250 MW Pennavel project, off the south coast of Brittany. The offer proposed by the consortium amounted to EUR 86.45 per MWh and was selected following the examination of all projects by the Commission for Regulation of Energy (CRE). 🍃 Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) is making strides towards their commitment of achieving a 100GW renewable portfolio by 2030. 🇩🇪 The company has achieved close on the financing of its 49% shareholding in the 476MW Baltic Eagle wind farm, located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Germany. 💨🌊🌬️ 🇪🇺This marks Masdar's largest ever euro-denominated financing, as well as its first project with Iberdrola and its first in Germany. 💸 The total lending package amounted to EUR488 million, with participation from ABN AMRO Bank N.V., Crédit Agricole CIB, ING, Santander and Siemens Bank. Santander also acted as financial advisor on the deal. 📈 Scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024, the Baltic Eagle wind farm boasts a valuation of approximately EUR1.6 billion.
