“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day; unless you're too busy, then you should sit for an hour.” We're so pressured to go-go-go-go these days, it can feel impossible to incorporate mindfulness into our days. But that's why it's so important! We do a bad job as a collective to stay present and of service to ourselves. Luckily, it's not that hard after all. Here's how I incorporate it into my workdays. 1) Starting my day with five or ten minutes of meditation/reflection. (Calm and 10% Happier are great guides when starting out, but you can find lots of free content on Spotify and Youtube too.) 2) Twice a day I do a 4-7-8 breathing exercise; often midday and before bed. Inhale for a count of 4, hold for a count of 7, exhale for a count of 8. Repeat three times or until you find your calm. 3) I take two 15-minute breaks a day to do absolutely nothing. No reading, no walking the dog, no work, not even making tea. Just me and my thoughts, discomforts, etc. Trust me, this is super hard to do, but it's so helpful with staying sharp when I get back to my tasks. 4) Another meditation to wind down for sleep, this one is usually at least twenty minutes since I struggle with insomnia a lot. If you find it hard to settle, take some slow, deep breaths and tell yourself "this is an inhale...this is an exhale." After three or so of these, I can be still enough to feel my feelings and navigate them. Remember, the point of meditation and these exercises are NOT to make your mind completely empty (there's legit science telling us this isn't possible!) but for you to simply be alongside your emotions and your thoughts. You can think of them as fish swimming in a koi pond, and you acknowledge them as they pass you. Happy meditating! 🧘♀️ #mindfullness #mindfullnessatwork #stressmanagement #meditation

The Experience of Meditation Meditation is a journey inward that brings about a variety of sensations and emotions ultimately leading to profound relaxation. Here's a glimpse into what you might feel while meditating and how it contributes to relaxation: 🌸 As you begin to meditate, your body naturally starts to relax. You may feel your muscles unwinding, and any physical tension you were holding begins to melt away. 🌬️ Your breathing becomes deeper and more regular which helps to calm your nervous system. This steady, rhythmic breathing is soothing and can make you feel more grounded. ✨ Some people experience a pleasant tingling or warmth spreading through their body especially in the hands and feet. This is often a sign that your body is entering a state of deep relaxation. 🌿 A sense of calm envelops you, replacing the usual rush of thoughts and worries. This peace can feel like a weight being lifted off your shoulders. 🌧️ During meditation, you might feel an emotional release. Feelings like sadness, anger, or joy can surface allowing you to process and let go of these emotions. 😊 Over time, it fosters a more positive emotional state. You might find yourself feeling happier, more content and more grateful. 🧘 Your mind becomes clearer and your ability to focus improves. You become more present in the moment, free from distractions and mental clutter. 🔍 With a quieter mind, you often gain new insights into your thoughts and behaviors. This heightened awareness can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself. 💆 Meditation triggers the body’s relaxation response, reducing the production of stress hormones like cortisol. This physiological change helps lower overall stress levels. 🌈 By promoting the release of feel-good chemicals such as endorphins, meditation can improve your mood and create a sense of well-being. In essence, meditation feels like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, offering a sanctuary where you can find peace, clarity, and relaxation. Regular practice can help you carry these benefits into every aspect of your life enhancing your overall well-being. 🌟 #Mindfulness #MeditationBenefits #MentalHealth #Wellbeing
