CDRC Election-Ready Maps Portal The 100 maps of socioeconomic data on CDRC Mapmaker now have a new overlay layer available – Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies (17 May 2024), which will be used for the General Election in July. Although the total numbers of constituencies remain the same (650), nearly 90% have changed boundaries and many have changed names.   Using CDRC Mapmaker, you can quickly see how Internet usage (IUC), socioeconomic classification (OAC), residential mobility and deprivation (RMD) or access to healthy assets (AHAH) varies by constituency.   Simply toggle the “Constituency” setting on the bottom left, and zoom to a local area, to see constituency names and boundaries outlined in black, with the underlying socioeconomic data shown in full colour beneath.   Example: https://lnkd.in/ehvG2pnM

Meeting the challenge of balancing demand for open government data with data security is a key issue for European National #Mapping, #Cadastral and #Land Registration Authorities (NMCAs). Of the 26 organisations responding to a joint questionnaire by EuroGeographics and the Permanent Committee on #Cadastre in the European Union (PCC), 20 reported conflicts between data openness and security increasing arising from increasing requirements for confidentiality, accuracy and availability. “Information from cadastral authorities is one of the most valuable resources for a functioning society and is fundamental to the four priorities of Sweden’s EU Presidency: #security, #resilience, prosperity and democracy,” says Dr Daniel Steudler, Chair of EuroGeographics Cadastre and Land Registry Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN). “Securing land ownership is the foundation of a market #economy and there is a clear need for robustness and resilience of basic infrastructures in times of uncertainty, particularly to prevent and manage catastrophic consequences, such as landslides, flooding and wildfires.” “To meet the needs of society, co-operation and interconnectivity is key. Information must be readily available, interoperable, and adapted towards digital processes. There's only about one more week until the EU-FTA comes into force, on 1 May 2024! From 1 May, all 1,975 European Union geographical indications (EU GIs) will become protected in New Zealand. No business in New Zealand can start or continue to use any of the 1,975 EU GIs on products not originating from the relevant EU region. There are, however, a small number of terms being protected as EU GIs that have phase-out periods for businesses to stop using them to describe their products. The IPONZ website has the full list of protected EU GIs and gives you the information you need to help you comply with the new rules. https://bit.ly/3W3y41T

Mapping Ireland's Rent Pressure Zones (RPZ) A recent project called for polygons of the RPZs. There didn't seem to be an official or open shape file, but fortunately the Irish government publishes a great deal of open data. Using the Housing Agency's list of of Rent Pressure Zones we quickly chopped down Tailte Éireann's Local Election Area geoJSON into an up-to-date set of RPZ geoJSON. Free for us to get, so free for you to use at your own risk under the same CC-BY-4.0 license.
