The volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula erupted again last week, again threatening the town of Grindavík. Drones captured amazing footage of a wall of erupting lava. We've been exploring how satellite imagery can help understand the scale of these events. Using Landsat data, we used different spectral filters to visualise the eruption in March and you can learn more about our map here: https://lnkd.in/eCZpwTQx #cartography #ArcGIS #GIS

🛩Drone P04 | Mission Planning Process 🛩️ 🔸Choosing flight altitude The tighter the accuracy you need, the lower you will need to fly your drone. Site topography and structures should also be taken into consideration when choosing an altitude to fly at, you want to make sure you are flying at least 15m above the tallest obstruction on your site for safety and at least 30m above the highest topo point you are trying to map to avoid insufficient overlap in your photo data. --- Have you found value? 🎉 The new YellowScan Navigator is here! YellowScan's newest and most innovative product, the Navigator is a bathymetry LiDAR system that enables shallow water terrain topography mapping as well as water surface capture. It is perfect for non-navigable areas (shallow to medium depth waters) and where the costs of using an aircraft for scanning would be too high. Specifications: ➡ Precision and accuracy: 3 cm, ➡ Maximum depth: 2 Secchi, ➡ Operating altitude: between 25 and 100 m, ➡ 44° scanning FOV, ➡ Autonomy of 40 minutes. Its applications are in the fields of coastal oceanography, safety of hydraulic structures, natural disasters, underwater archaeology, surface water hydrology, dredging and marine works, but it can equally well be used for different types of analysis in rivers and lakes. HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited welcomed the critique from the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) of our digital aerial survey photogrammetry method to measure seabird flight height. https://lnkd.in/e4geEr_g As a result, whilst the underlying principles of our flight height measurement are unchanged, we have revisited our analytical approaches, led by our in-house chartered Statistician, Dr Jack Forster with review from DMP Statistical Solutions UK Ltd to satisfy the concerns raised by BTO. The estimates from the revised analytical approach were validated against flight height data HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited collected using LiDAR. All methods for measuring flight height have their strengths and weaknesses, but for sure, continuing to build our understanding is important in improving our estimation of seabird collision risk at offshore windfarms. HiDef continue to build their flight height database, not just for the European market but also our operations in Australia. Importantly, our flight height estimation approach is extremely cost-effective compared to LiDAR and we continue to offer this service to our Clients. Please read our published response to the BTO paper to ensure you see the advancements we have made: https://lnkd.in/e9iPJrfs #HiDef #flightheight

As the rains continue falling hard on different parts of the country, it is very crucial to know how the water flow will affect your land. Through drone mapping, we create orthomosaics which we use to come up with D.E.Ms, (Digital Elevation Models) that provide accurate details of your land for planning purposes. 📍 Narok, Duka Moja Ranch Serian Geospatial, the home of geospatial solutions #GISsolutions #GeospatialServices #gis #SerianGeospatial #dronemapping

Nearview has gone #hyperspectral! In partnership with Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park, we are flying and mapping salt marsh ecosystems on the coast of Maine with a Headwall VNIR system, high-resolution RGB camera, and lidar. Can you see the difference? While the RGB provides higher resolution, the 136 spectral bands of the VNIR system more easily distinguishes vegetation types and species. Nearview appreciates the support of GRYFN in this survey effort. Our imagery will be used to classify and monitor salt marsh vegetation. The data will also be used to build out our spectral library (https://lnkd.in/ebWdtBgx). We will be releasing the next speclib within a couple of weeks, which will feature spectra for seaweed, salt marsh plants, seagrasses, and intertidal sediments. This open-access library is the only source of hyperspectral ground validation data specific to intertidal and coastal ecosystems. We will announce the upcoming release soon! #remotesensing #dronesforgood #uas #lidar #saltmarsh #marinescience #marineecology #intertidal #earthobservation
