High-quality health information is needed to support decision-making in healthcare. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Finland, resulting in an estimated annual cost of nearly three billion euros to society when indirect costs are also taken into account. It has been truly inspiring to be involved in the collaboration between Novartis, Siun Sote, and ESiOR Oy, which resulted in a scientific publication in European Heart Journal Open on the current state of secondary prevention of coronary artery disease, treatment implementation, and related social and healthcare costs in the North Karelia region. The results and the modeling based on them could be utilized in the future for more effective and personalized patient care planning and better allocation of limited healthcare resources.
