Having a supportive community to be yourself and to help educate others can be a key factor when choosing a company to work for. This was certainly the case for Charles Macmichael, ERM’s Managing Partner in Canada. Through his role at ERM, Charles was given the opportunity to become the executive sponsor of our Pride ERG in North America, the existence of which was an important part of his decision to join ERM. “I am proud to support an inclusive workplace for the LGBTQ community, including myself as a member of that amazing community.” #Pride #Pride2024 #LifeAtERM

Happy Pride Month, everyone. 🏳️🌈 In the last decade, we've seen amazing strides for the LGBTQ community. However, we've also seen a lot more divisiveness, contention, and even hate directed toward them, too. With more visibility often comes more vulnerability, which is why it's so important that businesses have practices in place to not only support members of the LGBTQ community but also protect them. You can definitely consider me in the 59% of Americans who believe we should devote resources to protecting LGBTQ rights. Not only can it make a positive difference in the lives of so many, but it can also show your LGBTQ employees that you truly care about their safety and well-being. #PrideMonth #LGBTQCommunity #InclusiveWorkplace

Does #PrideMonth help raise enough awareness about LBGTQ issues? 69% of the readers of our publisher Yahoo said ‘No’ and we also agree that waving the rainbow flag just for one month a year is definitely not enough. Is it important to dedicate an entire month to the achievements and challenges of the LGBTQ community? Yes. Is it equally important to address these things the rest of the year? Also yes. LGBTQ issues go beyond Pride Month. Because as we see in the results of the surveys, the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ people are still not a given and in many people’s opinion are once again under threat. It is therefore important to show awareness and support beyond Pride Month. Because in reality, every month is Pride Month.

Today, Ari Shaw, Ph.D. represented The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law on a panel at the Milken Institute Global Conferenece on The Role of Companies for LGBTQ Rights. We are beyond grateful to Briland Graves, Brian Patrick Fano Carandang, and Richard Ditizio for making this important conversation come to life. “In the United States alone, nearly 14 million adults identify as LGBTQ . The LGBTQ community currently wields $1 trillion in spending power—a metric that is only expected to grow. As the community becomes increasingly represented in employee and consumer bases alike, what role should corporations play in LGBTQ rights? How does it inform how and when companies make business decisions?” You can watch the whole panel here: https://lnkd.in/gBnrUVS6 #MIGLOBAL

As a Relationship Manager at Workplace Pride, Robert Corvers takes great pride in the work he does for our members and his community. Recently, Robert had the privilege to share his personal story and expertise on LGBTIQ inclusion in the workplace during a panel discussion at Squire Patton Boggs. 📽 You can view the video below. This opportunity was not just important; it was necessary. Globally, we are witnessing the resurgence of anti-gay laws in countries like Ghana, Russia, and even the US. Unfortunately, this often translates into increased discrimination and microaggressions against the LGBTIQ community. It is crucial for employers to not only acknowledge this issue but also take action. Prioritising inclusion aligns seamlessly with business objectives. It fosters a win-win situation – not only do satisfied employees result, but it also contributes to higher profits in the long run. #WorkplacePride #LGBTHistoryMonth #InclusiveWorkplace #LGBTIQ

To torund out Pride Month and keep the conversation going, ODEIB's Mary Ellen LaRosa sat down with LGBTQ Rights Committee Co-Chair Hayley Gorenberg to discuss the vital topic of creating inclusive environments. During the conversation, they delve into the underlying social forces – e.g. professionalism, heteronormativity, cis sexism, ableism – and their roots in white supremacy. We can all train ourselves to recognize and interrupt dynamics of exclusion in order to produce more inclusive environments. And we can all learn to spot the gaps in understanding the are a byproduct of our privileges, as well as learn to own and correct our mistakes without defensiveness. Doing this work can be a process of growth and creativity! It’s not all blame and shame. We encourage you all to listen, reflect, and share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eSc-4RjR #InclusiveWorkplaces #DEIB #Allyship #NewYorkCityBarAssociation
