When the Wright Brothers first flew the air machine over the beach in 1903, no one could have imagined the profound impact that #aviation would have on our society and day to day routines. Today, we enjoy the benefits of breakthrough technologies that were once unimaginable. However, when facing new technologies now, we often struggle to adapt because the existing infrastructures and regulations, which were designed for the previous "new technologies", now slow us down. It's never easy to make change and today's environment makes it even harder, but these disruptors could inspire us to think more creatively. Should we simply consider flying cars as a new form of transportation fitting into the current urban fabrics, or is there a room for us to redefine "#mobility" and "#connectivity", navigate a new path and perhaps transform our city planning and building design? In this article, our aviation expert Byron Thurber shared his views on "flying cars" and what it means for future cities. Arup #UrbanAirMobility #AdvancedAirMobility

😎 Take chances, make mistakes.... The sky is no longer the limit in city traffic! 🚀 InnovationAlert 🌍 When I stood in front of the marvel of technology - a drone designed for passenger flight - at the #DubaiAirshow, my mind was full of possibilities. Because of my previous job at FACC AG I immediately recognized the potential. Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is not just a futuristic dream, but the beginning of a new era of urban transportation. Imagine the skyline littered with these quiet, fast vehicles that are changing our urban landscapes and the way we perceive distance. 🌟 LIONLABS has always been about pioneering fire safety solutions. When I saw the potential of urban air mobility, I couldn't help but think about the safety challenges, especially the risk of battery fires in such compact, high-tech vehicles. 💡 The rise of UAM is being driven by visionaries and innovators. Companies such as Archer, Joby Aviation, Lilium, Volocopter and EHang (NASDAQ: EH) are leading the way in this field, each bringing unique solutions to the table. Their work is not just about overcoming gravity, but about making sustainable, efficient and safe air transportation a reality in the city. As we move towards a future where urban air mobility becomes a part of our daily lives, I invite you to join the discussion. ❓Have you already had any experience with urban air mobility in any form? Do you see it as an opportunity for our cities and our planet? #UrbanAirMobility #Batteryfire #FireSafetyInnovation #LIONLABS #SustainableFuture

Business Development | Research to business innovation | Sustainable Future Aviation | Industrial Metaverse | Smart Cities | Work Transformation
Minna Salo presenting a teaser of recommendations to cities and the public sector from VTT’s AIMO (Innovative Air Mobility as Operator Business) project in the urban air mobility seminar organized by our partners Forum Virium Helsinki and Innoavia. AIMO is co-creation by 7 Finnish cities and 8 other stakeholders in different parts of the future air mobility value network. New business opportunities in logistics, initially parcels prior to people. In safety, surveillance, surveying and even to future metaverse service providers, think of real time digital twins of the built environment. Delivered sustainably, carbon neutrally and widely accepted by the society, generating productivity and exciting future careers. Key enabler is emergence of drone fleet operators, able to provide a multi-purpose flying platform in large scale under service contracts. Think also of remote pilot-as-a-service business, ground operations delivery, automation and data platforms to enable multi-purpose tasking to the fleets. Surprising new players will enter this business along with the usual suspects. Stay tuned for more detailed results after the summer break or get in touch with us at any time.

Imagine an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as a railway system in the sky. In this concept, the eVTOL operates on designated aerial tracks, similar to railway lines, weaving through urban landscapes. Passengers board at elevated terminals, and the eVTOL glides silently and smoothly above the cityscape, guided by a network of aerial routes. This “sky railway” system offers a sustainable and efficient mode of urban transportation, alleviating traffic congestion and reducing environmental impact. It combines the convenience of on-demand air travel with the reliability and accessibility of a railway, promising a futuristic and eco-friendly solution for urban mobility challenges. #dorodesign #titanairmobility #mobilitydesign
