Planning a community service event could be a stress reliever for office workers. The benefits include injecting joy and purpose into work, inspiring employees, building team spirit, boosting job satisfaction, and enhancing the company's reputation. Most employees value volunteerism. A 2021 survey showed that 95% of Generation Z job seekers find it essential for their work to have meaning, and 62% look to join a company that shares their values. Organizing a community event doesn't have to be time-consuming; partnering with nonprofits or local businesses can make the process easier. To get the most out of a summer volunteer project, let employees lead, keep it simple and achievable, and recognize team members who volunteer. Highlighting your community service can differentiate you in a crowded market and attract new customers and employees. It's important to communicate your community involvement, as people like to associate with businesses that support causes they care about. Approachability, flexibility, clarity, welcoming and supportive staff! The relationship a volunteer leader has with the volunteers on our teams matters more than we realize, and goes beyond volunteer and staff supervisor. Take the time to introduce volunteers to others, and communicate about the important work they’ll be doing, it makes them feel like part of the team and builds a foundation of belonging and connection. “I had a casual, low-key interview process and did not need a resume for any of the roles. This made it very approachable after years away from a structured work environment. Being given a job description, a clear outline of duties, and training, with friendly/accessible staff available for ongoing support is essential. Spending time at the office made me feel like part of a team. Even staff who did not work with me regularly or directly made me feel welcome. My immediate supervisors being welcoming, supportive, and helpful went a long way towards making it a positive experience getting oriented and figuring out new positions. Being flexible and understanding about volunteers’ schedules made it easier to fit volunteering into my life,” Deb added. Ready to talk about improving your communication with volunteers? What a timely article. What are your thoughts? In summary of the article, do volunteers act as unpaid staff in roles that need to be filled on a regular basis, or hire staff for those roles and recruit volunteers for projects, special skill sets like PR or visiting or fill in the blank..... How do we navigate the changing landscape ourselves AND lead our organization’s thoughts on this as well? https://lnkd.in/e8vBxcvZ

# Best Practice with Volunteer workforce: Treating voluntary workers in your organization with respect, fairness, and appreciation is crucial for maintaining a positive and productive volunteer workforce. Here are some key practices to consider: #. Clearly communicate expectations: Provide volunteers with a thorough orientation that outlines their roles, responsibilities, and goals. Clear communication helps volunteers understand what is expected of them and minimizes confusion. #. Create a welcoming environment: Make volunteers feel valued and appreciated from the moment they join your organization. Provide a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, where everyone feels comfortable expressing their ideas and concerns. #. Provide appropriate training and support: Offer comprehensive training and ongoing guidance to ensure that volunteers have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively. Establish an open-door policy where they can seek help and clarification whenever needed. #. Offer flexibility: Volunteers often have other commitments, so providing flexible schedules and accommodating their availability demonstrates respect for their personal lives. This can include offering evening or weekend opportunities, or allowing them to work remotely if feasible. #. Express gratitude: Regularly express appreciation for the value that volunteers bring to your organization. Recognize their efforts publicly, through verbal or written thanks, certificates of appreciation, or small tokens of acknowledgment. This reinforces their sense of purpose and motivates them to continue making a difference. #. Provide opportunities for growth: Create avenues for skill development and advancement within your organization. Offer volunteer training programs, workshops, or mentorship opportunities to help volunteers enhance their abilities and progress in their volunteer roles. #. Seek and consider their input: Encourage volunteers to share their ideas, opinions, and feedback. Actively listen to their suggestions and take them into account when making decisions. This fosters a sense of ownership and inclusion among volunteers, making them feel valued and respected. #. Maintain open communication channels: Regularly check in with volunteers to assess their satisfaction, address any concerns they may have, and provide feedback on their performance. Open lines of communication build trust and allow for continuous improvement in the volunteer experience. By implementing these practices, you can create a positive and supportive environment for voluntary workers in your organization, leading to higher levels of engagement and a more rewarding volunteer experience. #recruitment #linkedinfamily #linkedinjobs #linkedin #management #mds #administration #volunteers

Employees increasingly find that robust workplace volunteer programs meet their desires for in-person connections, professional growth and altruistically inclined employers — career objectives that might be missing in conventional corporate atmospheres. The surge in interest coming out of the pandemic-era shutdowns that forced many Americans to reevaluate their commitments to their communities led to more corporate partners, volunteer hours and active participants in 2023 than ever before, according to Benevity. More than 60% of respondents reported increased participation last year in employee volunteer activities, according to an Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals survey of 149 companies.
