The recent Transport Minister Conference (#Verkehrsministerkonferenz) has highlighted Germany’s progress in further electrifying road freight, with thousands of electric trucks now contributing to a more sustainable logistics landscape according to the ministries. At Rhenus Logistics, we’re actively shaping this e-mobility transition. Our initiative testing the Daimler Truck AG eActros LongHaul (together with Amazon) embodies our commitment to innovation in reducing the logistics sector’s carbon footprint just as much as operating complete #BEV assembly lines. 🚛🔌 However, #emobility is just one of many steps in our collective ambition to reduce carbon #emissions. I’m convinced that we need a more holistic approach. For example, the substantial potential of waterways in fostering sustainable #logistics is often underemphasized in political dialogues. Waterborne transport, being cost-effective and low-emission, plays a vital role in a broader mobility transition strategy, necessitating increased investments in port infrastructure and innovations, including lock modernization. 🚢 The advantages of transport by inland waterway are obvious, but they need to become more visible in the public discourse. Depending on the calculation, one inland transport ship replaces up to 150 trucks. Thanks to existing infrastructures, transport via inland waterways could be multiplied without costly investments. Last but not least, the decarbonization of transport ships is making significant progress. For example, our sustainable inland waterway units Rhenus Mannheim I II and Rhenus Wörth I II show where development is heading: The hybrid combination of drive technologies reduces emissions by up to 72 percent. Let’s advocate for a wider spectrum of solutions, embracing diverse avenues, including waterways, to foster a more robust and sustainable mobility transition. 🌿 #EV #eActros

Rhenus Logistics #ports offers a huge network of seaport terminals as well as inland terminals. Together with our #transport collegues, we can already offer transport chains with a reduction of the #CO2 footprint up to approx. 70 %. So pushing the transformation of the barge fleet, is the right step in a #greenfuture. This obstacle is not so high compared to other means of transport. DHL Express Insights | Creating Green Logistics in Asia Pacific #logistic #greenlogistic #supplychain How is DHL Express paving the way for a more sustainable future in the realm of logistics? Ken Lee, CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific, and Sean Wall, Executive Vice President of Network Operations and Aviation, DHL Express Asia Pacific, who provide a look into some of the green initiatives the organization has undertaken in the Asia Pacific region to achieve a zero-carbon future. All of the efforts just to meet its global sustainability goal of reducing carbon emission to below 29 million tons by 2030! Electric vehicles, or EVs, play a key role in any zero-carbon future. But, while global sales for EVs doubled last year, increasing the number of vehicles in itself won’t be enough. To smoothly transition to EVs, governments need to examine the drawbacks of EVs and design different solutions specific to their country’s needs. This includes factors such as the average length of car journeys (in both miles and hours), the ratio of chargers to vehicles, and the availability of expertise in maintaining the vehicles and stations.  As a small island city, Singapore’s compact road network and short commuter distances, which average at 55km per day, are well within the limits of an EV’s average 250km range on a full charge. These factors, coupled with a developed infrastructure and strong government support, help explain why EVs made up 8.4 percent of all new car registrations in Singapore for the first five months of 2022, more than twice the rate in all of 2021. But Singapore’s advantage is unique, in that it is modern and small. Other countries are not faring so well. IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2022 highlighted that 2021 saw many countries facing a growing EV-per-charger ratio, with the speed of EV stock growth outpacing the deployment of charging infrastructure.  So how can countries overcome infrastructural challenges to create a sustainable EV ecosystem in the long run? DIFFERENT COUNTRIES HAVE DIFFERENT NEEDS FOR CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE  The key to successful EV adoption lies in the ratio of EV cars per charger. However, each country has different target ratios set, depending on factors such as housing stock, the average distance traveled, and population density. 

We hear it from our #carriers and we experience it ourselves: the transition to a low-emission #roadlogistics industry remains a challenge with a lot of ‘question marks’. When will grid operators and charging infrastructure be ready to accommodate more electric trucks? When is the right time to invest in electric trucks? Among other questions. That is why we are excited to participate in this project with the Road Logistics team in the UK. They have been engaging with our carriers to jointly embark on this big ‘test’, which we hope will accelerate the #decarbonization journey.
