This BBC News article was being discussed everywhere this week. It reported that sick days at work have hit the highest level for 10 years, with the cost of living crisis, COVID-19, and rising stress levels being among the causes listed. But what often isn't factored into this discussion is that while people and their circumstances have changed significantly since the pandemic - the working environments they're being asked to return to haven't changed at all. As mentioned in the article, many workplaces have promised to create a supportive culture and focus on workplace wellbeing, but this often means offering short-term fixes such as lunchtime yoga. Distracting environments, little privacy and a lack of calming or focused spaces are just a few of the reasons someone might prefer to work remotely - and that's why we created Kabin. So many interest points here that are worth further research and investigation to uncover what’s actually happening. 🦴 in the hybrid / remote working era post Covid - are employers really doing enough to look at workstation assessment in the home? Musculoskeletal health is hugely important in desk based roles 🤩 engagement - are people less engaged with their employer / team culture when not in the office? This varies from person to person of course - but disengaged people leads to poor quality health and productivity outcomes ❤️ does your workplace offer a inclusive, welcoming and open environment for people? Too many people who live and work on their own might feel like they have no one to talk to - employers should have a duty of care around loneliness and isolation in my opinion. For me, I actually think hybrid working makes me take less sick days as I can work when I otherwise wouldn’t want to be in the office (if I have a cold etc) - but it helps to have a very supportive business and team culture around us here at 2CV. I also have a family at home to keep me occupied outside of work!
