Although fewer than one in four local health departments directly provided each of these services in 2023, more than one in two partnered with others for #ViolencePrevention. Local health departments' direct services were more frequently categorized as focusing on stopping violence from happening in the first place (i.e., primary prevention), as opposed to intervening after violence occurs or addressing the long-term consequences (i.e., secondary or tertiary prevention). These are shocking figures highlighting the grip Big Alcohol lobbyists have on policy making in the USA. There are similar concerns in Europe where the ease of access of alcohol lobbyists to policy makers was highlighted by a Movendi International report which found that the alcohol industry had 270 meetings over the last six years compared to the NGOs’ who had 14 meetings. This means that of all the meetings held regarding direct alcohol issues, 95 % represented economic interests while 5 % represented public health interests. https://lnkd.in/gy4aEjEi
