Kate Dempsey, TNC Maine’s State Director, was included in a story on Channel 13 yesterday! 🎉📺 Kate represents TNC as a member of the Maine Climate Council – an assembly of scientists, industry leaders, bipartisan local and state officials, and engaged citizens tasked with developing a four-year plan to address the impacts of climate change on Maine, build resiliency to climate effects, and meet state statutory targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The goals are ambitious. For example, conserving 30% of Maine’s land by the year 2030 (a 2023 progress report put us at about 22.2%). But even if all the goals haven’t been met yet, Kate feels that there is reason for optimism: “Honestly, the fact that we’ve gained 3 percent in a state where there’s close to 20 million acres of land is quite phenomenal." We’re proud to be part of the Maine Climate Council, and to continue building momentum & supporting climate action here in Maine, and beyond! 🌍🌎🌏 Check out the whole clip: https://lnkd.in/eAE3Mx7y Or read the full 2023 progress report: https://lnkd.in/e44Hnvwr

« Municipalities are the first partners to ensure the implementation of our climate objectives » points out Phillipe Henry, Vice-President & Minister for Climate, Energy, Mobility & Infrastructure. Cities are key players in achieving the EU's goals. The 15 years of work of the Covenant of Mayors has been (and continues to be) key in ensuring that this potential is fully embraced and exploited by regional and national governments in their energy and climate policies. 💚 Climate action must become a fully-funded statutory duty for all UK councils. Without the powers and the necessary funding to deliver their ambitious climate targets, councils are increasingly limited in what they can do improve local climate action. Political leadership and getting their governance ducks in a row is vital for councils to improve on their climate delivery, but without national changes, significant barriers will remain. ✊ 🌍 📔 To find out more, check out our new report hashtag #ScorecardsSuccesses: What factors enable local climate action?, now available at: https://lnkd.in/eCG69bV3

Exciting developments for #carbonfarming in Europe! I am glad to witness the European Union stepping up to accelerate its efforts in recognizing the pivotal role of agriculture in mitigating climate change. While this initiative aims to #standardize practices and ensure the issuance of #reliable carbon credits, there are still some key challenges that demand attention: 📊 One crucial aspect is the adoption of standardized #baselines in the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (#CRCF). Negotiations must carefully navigate this terrain, as baselines are at the heart of carbon credits. Indeed, it’s a crucial element that not only validates the environmental impact of carbon projects but also prove additionality and determine the amount of carbon credits to be issued. Although standardized baselines may seem like a scalable solution, a robust database is imperative for reliable results. For now, it seems like a such thing is not ready at EU level and with Project Marvic we are currently working on defining what would be the best option to adopt! Stay tuned for more details coming soon! 👀 👫 Another important consideration is the management of double counting. With the CRCF, the removals generated will be disclosed in the Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDC) of member states. This disclosure will help nations in meeting their climate ambitions, but a critical question arises: how do we finance carbon credits and incentivize changes in practices? Collaboration with industries seems to become inevitable. By strategically investing in their value chains, industries hold the power to significantly impact #emissions reduction and #removals. It's imperative to address this aspect to ensure widespread participation and collective benefits. This includes fair remuneration for farmers, a pathway for companies to achieve their environmental goals, and a means to contribute to member state NDCs. At Agrosolutions Consulting we believe in the power of #teamwork to shape a #sustainablefuture! #CarbonFarming And you, what are your thoughts about the CRCF?
BREAKING 📣 The European Parliament just voted on a new regulation to certify #CarbonRemovals and #CarbonFarming as part of the Carbon Removals Certification Framework #CRCF 🗳️ Despite welcome improvement to the flawed European Commission proposal, loopholes still exist! Moving to trilogues, it is essential that MEPs defend these improvements while closing the remaining gaps in order to ensure real climate action in the EU 👇
