New smartwatch app for CPR evaluation & research! There is a lot of scientific CPR research, but at the same time a lack of CPR data during a rescue. Smartwatches are able to collect chest compression depth and rate during a cardiac arrest. To make this happen, SimCPR develops a new smartwatch app. During the rescue itself, only a timer is displayed and feedback is shown after the event. This avoids the complicated certification process of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). After stopping the timer, depth and rate scores are displayed for rescuers to evaluate their most important CPR-skills. Recorded data can easily be shared for further evaluation and scientific research. This improves CPR and cardiac arrest survival. An annual physical is a privilege. It is how many of us learn about silent heart health risks before they become something serious. But for billions of people worldwide, this remains out of reach. Heart disease claims millions prematurely, leaving families devastated and often impoverished. Everyone deserves a chance at a healthy heart. Motivated by this, we set out to find solutions that could reach more people. Today, we're thrilled to share that a simple signal that is readily obtainable from smartphones, called a photoplethysmogram (PPG), appears to be quite useful in predicting long-term heart health risk with just about the same accuracy as traditional screenings that typically require blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol measurements.
