Exciting announcement! Our latest blog post explores a groundbreaking framework for large-scale, multi-view, multi-sensor spatial synchronization in intelligent transportation systems. 🚀 Spatial synchronization is crucial for integrating data from various sensors in roadside scenarios. However, traditional methods often suffer from cumulative errors, limiting their effectiveness in large-scale deployments. Manual camera calibration also proves inadequate and time-consuming. To tackle these challenges, our research introduces a parallel spatial transformation (PST)-based framework. By parallelizing sensor coordinate system transformation, we minimize cumulative errors and optimize synchronization accuracy. We further leverage deep learning techniques for precise roadside monocular global localization, significantly reducing manual work. Additionally, geolocation cues and an optimization algorithm contribute to improved accuracy. Real-world testing has shown exceptional results, surpassing the performance of CST-based methods. Our framework offers a game-changing solution for large-scale roadside multi-perspective, multi-sensor spatial synchronization, effectively reducing deployment costs. I am proud and excited to announce that our paper titled "Heterogeneous Data Fusion for Accurate Road User Tracking: A Distributed Multi-Sensor Collaborative Approach" has been accepted at the IEEE Intelligent Vehicle Symposium (IEEE IV2024) held in June in Jeju Island, Korea! Many thanks to my co-authors Simone Mentasti and Prof. Matteo Matteucci! 📖 Overview: Our work presents a novel distributed multi-sensor object tracking algorithm designed to integrate heterogeneous sensory data from multiple static acquisition stations. The intricate urban landscape, where diverse road users interact unpredictably, necessitates advanced technological solutions for enhancing road safety and traffic management. Leveraging deep learning and sensor fusion, our algorithm offers a modular and scalable solution tailored for urban scenarios and multimodal exchange nodes. 🔍 Details and main novelties: - A double Extended Kalman Filter state is kept for each object to incorporate delayed measurements and maintain optimal filter estimates. - The 3D state of objects is updated with 2D detections within the Kalman Filter, capitalizing on a particular ellipsoid-ellipse projection - The algorithm is tested using a digital twin of the Milano Bovisa Campus, exploiting CARLA Simulator.
