Anthropologist of an Ecosocial Transition (Sustainability & Wellbeing). Transdisciplinary Researcher. Essayist. Creating Meaningful Synergies.
Outstanding conversation between Nate & Arthur!! Right on target for the human predicament. Many insights from Art, not only on the technical and geo-strategic side but also on the human side. When the wall of materiality built with the slaves of energy falls, we will have to adapt by building the wall of meaning to continue living. I think Fyodor Dostoevsky's phrase points to this. "For the secret of human existence lies not only in living, but in knowing what to live for." I think around minute 55 starts the best ending I've seen of all the episodes in The Great Simplification. What resonated with me was this line from Arthur "But so much of it has to do with what can I learn to be satisfied with? Can I learn to be satisfied with what I have? Or am I always wanting something more, which more than likely is something I actually don't need? As you say, it's something you train yourself in." This is part of the Libido Economy from Mallmann that I try to make visible through their 6 key elements: needs, aspirations (wishes), values, time, activities (most of them having repercussions on Nature) and the result (a greater or lesser degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction). Libido Economy: "The study of the needs, values and aspirations of human beings; the time they devote to various activities; and the resulting satisfactions and frustrations.” https://shorturl.at/jkHKX

There are many complex aspects to the global oil situation, shale depletion, Strategic Petroleum Reserve and US crude oil exports. Returning to TGS today is geologist Arthur Berman to help deconstruct what's happening. As Art says, ‘oil is the economy’ and understanding the complex dynamics of the oil market provides insight into the entire economic system. How do geological luck and foreign policy create the global stage for oil markets? What is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, have we been misusing it, and does it matter in comparison to larger energy policy blunders? What are the current dynamics affecting oil prices and how will this affect the long term out-look of oil availability? Arthur E. Berman is a petroleum geologist with over 35 years of oil and gas industry experience. He is an expert on U.S. shale plays and is currently consulting for several E&P companies and capital groups in the energy sector. How do geological luck and foreign policy create the global stage for oil markets? https://lnkd.in/g-GtuvVB

In my opinion, this is very important to protect some of our most valuable waterways in our Commonwealth.
