Fluff is an essential component in your incontinence products. But how is it bleached? All of ABENA’s nappies and pads are bleached chlorine free. Either Elemental Chlorine-Free (ECF) or Total Chlorine-Free (TCF). The most common process worldwide is the elemental chlorine-free process. It produces considerably lower dioxin traces in effluents. Chlorine is exchanged with chlorine dioxide and is a far safer chemical in the bleaching cycle. In the USA, the ECF process is the only one used. It is regarded as being the Best Available Technology (BAT) – as it is in Europe, where the regulators and industry have found no significant difference between TCF and ECF, so both methods are regarded as the Best Available Technology.
