Recently, I had the chance to witness the most popular ballet in Geneva - "Swan Lake" performed by the Royal Classical Ballet. It was a sheer delight to experience the brilliance, charm, synchrony, and storytelling in one of the oldest art forms. As I navigate through a transitional phase in my life, I am more open to learning and motivation, no matter where I am or what I am doing. Ballet, as an art form and discipline, imparts valuable lessons that extend beyond the dance studio. From discipline and dedication to creativity and artistic expression, here are some key learnings from ballet that can be applied to life in general: - Discipline and Dedication - Physical and Mental Strength - Precision and Attention to Detail - Posture and Body Awareness - Teamwork and Collaboration - Resilience in the Face of Failure - Expressiveness and Communication - Time Management - Creativity and Artistic Expression - Cultural Appreciation - Goal Setting and Achievement - Mind-Body Connection What life lessons have you learned from an art form? Enabling differential growth through AI, knowledge management, machine learning, technology, learning and development, research, past experiences, and creating cultures focused on collaboration.
I love this video of how Jerome Robbins of the New York City Ballet turned chaos into beauty as part of creating the final version of the ballet, Glass Pieces. This concept is not solely about ballet or dance; it can be applied to business and how the best ideas often come from uncertainty or, indeed, “chaos.” Make the most of an unexpected situation. This could, and has, led to some of the best highly differentiated business solutions. https://lnkd.in/eEKbn_dk

Oooh my latest ballet tip... how to improve the quality of your glissade. It's such an overlooked step, but it is the absolute foundation of preparation for so many leaps and jumps that getting the quality just right will have a huge impact on so much of your work. https://lnkd.in/eaUG9A3g Let me know how you get on.

When I was 13yrs old, I wanted to be a ballet dancer. This was my audition picture for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Summer School - I luckily got in and had a summer that completely changed my life and world perspective. I am now very far from that reality, but I have taken a lot of the lessons I learned into the work I do today in people centric change. I would love to know what you wanted to be at 13yrs old and as a result, what change you lead yourself through to get you to where you are today? Share your thoughts below in the comments. #leadingchange Maleeha M.

CAN BALLET BE ANTI-RACIST? By Theresa Ruth Howard "In 2019, while delivering a keynote address titled “Deconstructing the Anatomy of Culture and Leadership in Ballet” at the Positioning Ballet conference hosted by the Dutch National Ballet (watch on YouTube), I identified the culture of ballet as one of the primary barriers to diversification. My “Bubble Theory” presents subcultures such as education, sports, commerce, and art as tiny bubbles within the larger bubble of world culture, which dictates social norms, including all the -isms (racism, classism, sexism, ableism, etc.). Each tiny bubble has a culture specific to itself but shares the DNA of the larger society and is a reflection of it. This makes ballet a perfect mini-mirror of larger norms, dressed in a tutu with a crown. Thus, imagining ballet as “anti-racist” generates the same skepticism as when we try to conceive of an America as an anti-racist America: it seems antithetical to its genetic make-up." @TheWNETGroup #blacksinballet,@dancenyc,@danceusa, #BlacksInBallet #Doingthework #BalletEquality #AntiRacismInBallet #BreakingBarriers #Theresaruthhoward #InclusiveBallet #mobballet

As a ballerina myself, I really love how this video illustrates the high level of detail and synchronisation required for a corps de ballet to dance as one. These qualities mirror many foundational principles of social innovation design, where collaboration and unity are key. I explore parallels between ballet and social impact in my latest Substack article. Link in my bio.

Sr. Staff Associate I @ Columbia | Neurodegenerative, Neurodevelopmental, Rare Disorders, Drug Development, Gene Therapy, Arts, Ballet, Art Therapy, Holistic Medicine, Wellness
Today for #health, #happiness, and #stress management during National Stress Awareness Month, I am happy to share my new #ballet "The Merry Widow"- Act 2, Hanna's Villa. This ballet can be an idea for an afternoon #art break and #exercise. The story of the ballet shows, in my view, how fate changes throughout life, and the poor girl Hanna saves an entire country with her wealth. Also, it shows that if two people truly love each other, they will be together, even if later in life, like Hanna and Danilo. Besides warming up properly before dancing ballet, it is important to properly recover after dancing, especially if you have danced for a long time. Therefore, later in the day, it is important to stretch and relax your muscles to avoid pain. In principle, I like to advise people when dancing ballet to always be cautious and listen to their body, and not overexert themselves. Also, some energy in the form of nutrition and proper hydration with water is necessary before and after dancing. Here is some advice on how to stretch to prevent pain due to dancing (ballet): https://lnkd.in/gAkp_5fZ #ballet #ballerina #mentalhealth #physicalhealth 3stressmanagement #movementismedicine #arttherapy #dance #dancetherapy
