#Egypt Successfully Launches First Turbine at Julius Nyerere Dam in Tanzania* Egypt successfully launched the first turbine at the Julius Nyerere hydroelectric dam project on the Rufiji River in Tanzania, according to a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of Housing. The dam is being built by an Egyptian consortium of the Arab Contractors and El Sewedy Electric companies. Officials from the Egyptian consortium implementing the project said that the overall progress of the project has reached about 96%, with the completion of work on the main dam, intake works, three tunnels for the passage of water to the turbine building, a power distribution and connection station, four auxiliary dams to form the water reservoir, and a permanent concrete bridge that connects the banks of the Rufiji River. The bridge is one of the most important elements of the project due to its important role in transporting the large and heavy turbine parts. In December last year, the Egyptian consortium signed a $2.9 billion contract in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to implement a project to build a dam and a 2,115-megawatt hydroelectric power plant on the Rufiji River in Tanzania. The project aims to generate 6,307 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to meet the consumption of about 17 million households. The dam also controls floods to protect the surrounding environment from the risks of floods and swamps, and to store about 34 billion cubic meters of water in a newly created lake, ensuring the availability of water permanently throughout the year for agricultural purposes and preserving the surrounding wildlife in one of the largest forests in Africa and the world.
We delightedly announce the successful and significant milestone in the development of the Julius Nyerere Power Project (JNHPP) in Tanzania. Under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, and in collaboration with the Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Assem El Gazzar, ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC is proud to be implementing this groundbreaking project. With 100 kilowatts now being entered into the grid, we are delighted with the progress achieved so far. The trial of the No. 9 plant has been a resounding success, surpassing our expectations. This early success sets a promising tone for the future, as we aim to produce 235 megawatts from the No. 9 plant by February this year and subsequently move forward with the No. 8 and No. 7 plants. Her Excellency, President of the Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has prioritized this project, ensuring reliable electricity for Tanzanians. Once completed, the JNHPP project will inject an impressive 2115 megawatts into the national grid, transforming the energy landscape of Tanzania. We extend our gratitude to TANESCO, our partner, The Arab Contractors, and all involved parties for their dedication and hard work. This project serves as a model for Africa, demonstrating the capacity of African countries to undertake major strategic initiatives independently. Stay tuned for more updates on our impactful journey as we continue to shape the future of energy in Tanzania and beyond. Together, we are empowering generations to come. #ElsewedyElectric #JNHPP #EnergyProject #EmpoweringGenerations #SustainableFuture

NAMIBIA PORTS NEED URGENT AND AGGRESSIVE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF THE OIL AND GAS SECTOR. The Namibian Ports Authority (NamPort) has raised a flag of caution, highlighting potential capacity challenges as the country gears up for this new era. CEO Andrew Kanime revealed some eye-opening insights. He explained that offshore corporations, big and small, need the right amount of space to thrive – think 5 to 10 hectares for medium-sized players, scaling up to a whopping 100 to 200 hectares for major industry players. It's all about accommodating growth and making sure operations run seamlessly onshore and offshore. Infrastructure is the name of the game here. Kanime shed light on the checklist: land space, site capacity, water depth, and specialized equipment. Plus, let's not forget about the crucial onshore supply bases – they're the bridge that keeps the materials and personnel flowing smoothly. Now, for the action on the ground (and sea)! NamPort is making strategic moves. At the Port of Walvis Bay, they've set aside a generous 8 hectares for an oil and gas supply base. Already, 5 hectares are spoken for – and it's all about maximizing efficiency. Over at the Port of Lüderitz, the spotlight is on serving TotalEnergies. Picture this: 3 hectares of land earmarked for oil and gas activities. One hectare is already locked in, and 2 hectares are up for grabs. Kanime highlighted the importance of this collaboration, especially in developing the essential infrastructure. NamPort is all in, gearing up to align with the industry's unique needs. In order to meet the stringent demands it is critical for blending financing for expansion, public-private partnerships for various projects, and smart strategies to bring everything together. Kanime summed it up perfectly – the ports are the backbone of Namibia's oil and gas sector. But it's not a one-person show; success hinges on everyone chipping in to make this vision a reality
