According to new data released today, events hosted by Charlotte Sports Foundation in 2023 had an economic impact of nearly $80 million. Collegiate sporting events, coupled with the strong offerings of professional #sports in Uptown Charlotte with the #NFL, #NBA and #MLS, play a significant role in the hospitality and tourism economy, and help make Charlotte a great place to live, work and play. I often get asked the question, "Why did you join the Rotary Club?" My honest answer is that I wasn’t entirely sure at first. I joined because a good friend needed my support during her year as club president. Initially, I entered Rotary without fully knowing what to expect. Now, nearly two and a half years later, I've transitioned from being just a member to becoming the Chartered President of a club. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve never regretted my decision to join. Being part of Rotary has taught me many valuable lessons. One of the key insights I gained is that running a club is very much like running a business. The members function like employees, working together as a cohesive team, fostering mutual respect, and helping each other grow and shine. Additionally, I’ve learned to care less about external judgments and how to disregard gossip. The three critical lessons that have truly inspired me throughout this experience are: 1. When I fall, I get back up with grace and resilience. 2. I should never compare myself to others. 3. I can help others without expecting anything in return.

Very interesting article in CN that has sparked off a huge debate.. However if you take the debate beyond golf ... charity cricket matches, charity rugby matches, charity football matches.. all these are all great fun, networking charity fundraising events ... but heavily male dominated... surely the answer lies within the sport to encourage more diversity. At Lighthouse Golf Club CIC we are actively encouraging more women to play this terrific healthy mindful sport. We already have had a successful Women in Construction Golf Day at the London Club and planning a further two events this year where everyone in our industry can actively participate in the charity golf day, even if they have never played golf before. There is no getting away from the fact that golf features heavily in the construction DNA and those that don't play golf are missing out on a networking opportunity and this must be addressed... but lets address it by growing overall participation in sport! Playing any sport is good for socialising and improving your physical and mental health.

Latest leisure and events news…..   This month the first phase of restoration work will start at Moseley Road Baths in Birmingham. The Grade II listed building works will start with the roof and façade. Phase two will see the restoration of the swimming pool and the conversion of the second pool into an event space.   The Post Office has announced that it will be increasing the cost of first-class post to £1.65 from 7 October (a 30-pence increase). The organisation has said that reduced volumes of post and increased business costs have led to the increase. Second class post will remain at 85-pence. News publisher The Times has said that 9,500 millionaires are likely to leave the UK due to their fears of higher earner taxes increasing in the next budget. Archaeologists have uncovered a 2,000-year-old mosaic featuring dolphins and fish at Wroxeter near Telford. Some small artifacts have also been found. September is a great month for sport in the region. The Strongman Open took place yesterday and the Vitality Blast Finals takes place at Edgbaston next weekend. The FISE Xperience Series is also taking part in Wolverhampton next weekend. Birmingham is now positioned as 31 in the Ranking of Sports Cities. 80% of people are planning to spend the same or more on their holidays in the year ahead according to a Travel Counsellors Censuswide survey. 17% of respondents stated that they would like to travel around at their destination. 43% of people said ‘guaranteed sunshine’ helped make the perfect holiday.
