Looking forward to presenting Eleks' thoughts on Microgrids and Power System Planning on Fraunhofer IEE's workshop on Thursday. The situation in Ukraine might seem far away - but our conversations with German TSOs clearly show that it's critical to include the new threats in Germany's grid planning. So helping Ukraine's energy system toward rebuilding resilient grids is not only a humanitarian must - it'll also help us to build more resilient grids for the energy transition in Europe and Germany!

𝐅𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞’𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐭𝐲 📣 The rapidly increasing global demand for energy makes it clear that there is an urgent need for energy sources that are capable of reliably producing climate-friendly energy on a sufficiently large scale. The independence of energy supply is another important factor that needs to be weighed up in the equation. With its potential to sustainably replace fossil fuels as the world’s primary energy source, #FusionEnergy is probably the most promising solution to all those challenges. In this regard, our CEO Milena Roveda accepted an invitation from the Landtag Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament) last week to attend the hearing on the motion "𝐀 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 - 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞-𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲". 🇩🇪 ▶️ Announcing her support for the motion, Milena stressed: "In order to drive forward the industrialisation of #FusionEnergy, we need not only financial resources, but also an appropriate regulatory framework. Europe must continue to work on a fusion regulation that is not based on the existing fission framework.” We would like to thank Angela Freimuth, Deputy Chair of the FDP Freie Demokraten (Free Democratic Party Germany) for the invitation, as well as Matthias Voigtländer and Roman Staub for organising the hearing. We were delighted to be able to participate as experts alongside Prof Dr Christian Linsmeier and Dr Jansens Pieter J.. 👏 #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

📣 Yesterday, CERRE Research Fellow Andrei Covatariu spoke at the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam. Joining the "Leading the charge: dynamic storage at scale" session, Andrei discussed how dynamic storage can support and accelerate global energy transition efforts. 📄 CERRE’s recent Dynamic Regulation study underscores the importance of responsive and adaptive regulation in the face of the #netzero transition. Authors Michael Pollitt, Daniel Duma, and Andrei Covatariu conclude that regulators must become more agile within a regulatory cycle: they must incorporate lessons from the past and adapt, respond to higher uncertainty while allowing for trial and error, and anticipate future challenges. 📘 Access the full publication, "Towards a More Dynamic Regulation for Energy Networks", on our website ➡ https://lnkd.in/eMvAYE98 #RedesigningEnergy #WEC2024 #energytransition

On May 29, 2024, the UWEA hosted a highly informative #webinar on the #legal and #technical aspects of constructing #hybrid power plants in Ukraine 🇺🇦 The event gathered energy business representatives, government officials, and other stakeholders. Hybrid power plants, which combine various types of RES, for example, “#WPP #SPP”, contribute to more stable and predictable “green” electricity production. In addition, the integration of energy storage systems into these plants significantly enhances the operational flexibility and stability of the grid. Given the current crisis in Ukraine's power sector, with significant damage to energy infrastructure and the application of systemic power outages, the development of hybrid RE plants could significantly strengthen and stabilize the national IPS. 💬 “Construction of “green” hybrid power plants is a global trend. In 2022, the global market for hybrid energy systems reached $643.91 million and is projected to grow to approximately $1,225.79 million by 2032 [Precedence Research]. We do hope Ukraine will soon join this market as well,” said Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, opening the webinar. Vyacheslav Molybog, Project Manager at Fichtner, presented the theoretical foundations and typical steps for modeling hybrid power plant projects as well as real cases of implemented projects worldwide. Maksym Sysoiev, Partner at Dentons Ukraine (official name LLC Dentons Europe), outlined the legal specifics of hybrid plant projects for different market participants: power producers, active consumers, and consumers. He noted the absence of specific legislative definitions for hybrid systems in Ukraine but stressed the relevance of existing renewable energy regulations. Oleksandr Zhyhalyuk, Head of the Transmission System Development Department at NPC UKRENERGO, emphasized the importance of integrating hybrid plants into the Ukrainian IPS: 💬“This webinar marks a promising start for the development of hybrid power generation, which is crucial for Ukraine's energy system. However, it's essential to study international experiences in greater detail. I understand these experiences are not uniform, as each country has specificities. But we are at a pivotal moment where this component needs to be integrated into Ukrainian legislation as well, and it is important to do so in the most effective way.” Full release: https://lnkd.in/e2VGSM7X
