Start your smart infrastructure journey with us at the JCT Traffic Signals Symposium 2024. We will be on stand S4 at the event, which takes place September 11th and 12th at the Nottingham City Campus at Nottingham Trent University. If you are a traffic signals engineer or highways manager looking for ways of making your traffic signals more efficient and effective, we have a number of different solutions available to discuss. This year, we have produced guidance for local authorities on how to improve efficiency of traffic signals based on our many years of experience of helping councils do just that! We have always believed the efficiency of traffic signals is a key part of effective and efficient cities and towns. We have spent more than a decade researching this and coming up with solutions to help. Using traffic lights, CCTV sites and 5G systems, for example, allows rapid clusters of vital information to enable you to manage traffic flow and other challenges more effectively. Our Mesh 5G provides high bandwidth communications to on-street devices using the 5Ghz spectrum with advanced TDMA protocols. This technology can cover all the needs of a smart city in a building block approach where every component fits together and works with a unified cloud. This system was developed in 2003 and has since been deployed in over 42 towns and cities across the United Kingdom. Convergence of 5G and Wi-Fi 6, 6E underway. From the 50,000 ft. level the signs are now obvious. Buoyed by the success of FWA (fixed wireless access) the cellular carriers are now looking more openly at readily buildable solutions that expand wireless network connectivity at low cost and without spectrum acquisition hassles. There's already signs that roaming arrangements may enjoy a come-back. The showcase University of Michigan system shows what's possible with fully seamless connectivity between cellular devices and the campus network.

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) have been in the focus of lots of research works lately. While their benefit have been demonstrated mostly in single-user, single-antenna and single-carrier (frequency flat) systems, generalizations of those are less explored. This week, I presented our results from our paper "Maximization of minimum rate in MIMO OFDM RIS-assisted Broadcast Channels" (https://lnkd.in/gbwMf3qU), co-authored with Mohammad Soleymani, Ignacio Santamaria, and Eduard Jorswieck. In there, we show how RIS perform in multi-carrier systems (given that the RIS can be set only once and is fixed over all sub-carriers), and how much gains can be achieved by optimizing the RIS elements compared to non-optimized RIS. Aside from the scientific achievements, I am very happy that we obtained those results due to the collaboration of two of the 6G research hubs in Germany, namely #6G-RIC and #6GEM. #6gplatform, #6GEM, #6G-RIC, Ruhr University Bochum, Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung

After a very long review process our paper "Performance Analysis of Multiport Antennas in Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication Channels" was finally published in Springer Wireless Personal Communications. We assessed many state-of-the-art 2-port MIMO antennas in a complete set of vehicular communication channels and presented a road-map of how to incorporate performance evaluation aspects before releasing a MIMO antenna. We employed power consumption models to conduct energy efficiency performance on top of diversity and MIMO channel capacity performances. Indicatively, the Yagi-like 2-port MIMO antenna (https://lnkd.in/gvuHWXcV) has shown performance superiority against other 2-port designs in the ensemble of vehicular communication channels. This paper was a collaborative effort of Dr. Abed Pour Sohrab, Dr. Yingke Huang, and myself and was supported by EPSRC funding. It can be accessed online in the link below: https://lnkd.in/gSZgXWis.
