Most of us have been taught an over simplified story of the water conervation. The current narrative of water conservation focuses only on water as if water in nature exists isolated from rest of the elements of nature. There are two critical elements that are not talked about when discussing water (Jal) management. They are - Jangal (Forest/Vegetation) & Jameen (Soil) because sustainable water management happens when we manage and nurture the local natural water cycle represented by the triad - Jal-Jangal-Jameen. At Jalsmruti we are on a mission to spread literacy about water conservation by understanding how can we nurture existing jal-jangal-jameen & restore where it has been destroyed, within the circle of our control and influence. Literacy of water conservation, therefore, begins with learning how water works in nature. How nature has designed water to be sustainable by interconnecting water (Jal) with vegetation (Jangal) and soil (Jameen). * Jangal (Forest/Vegetation) is responsible for Jal that comes in the form of rain * Jangal is also responsible for conserving and improving the texture and quality of Jameen (soil) filtering the Jal (water) allowing more Jal to seep under ground where Jal is safest else it can evaporate from heat of the sun. * Jameen (soil) plays a critical role by allowing the Jal received as rain to flow from Earth's surface to below the earth until the soil profile is saturated. After saturation, the Jameen then nurtures the surface water bodies by feeding & filling them with Jal from underneath their bed. So to conserve water - 1. We need to acknowledge that we have broken or are going to break the natural water cycle locally 2. Then, we need to make efforts to restore the local natural water cycle where & when broken. 3. Most importantly, understanding the importance of local natural water cycle, we need to protect it. Watch this 6 minute video to learn exactly how soil (Jameen) plays a highly critical role in conserving water. #localwatercycle #waterconservation #jaljangaljameen https://lnkd.in/dKmnBA-N

Yesterday, 16 farmers and conservation professionals gathered to progress along a small unnamed tributary in the Upper Conestoga River watershed and resources available for continued improvements to achieve both water quality and farm operation goals. Many thanks to TeamAg, Inc. , Stroud Water Research Center, Caernarvon Twp., Lancaster County Conservation District, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the farmers in this small catchment for their dedication to ongoing conservation over many years! Our delisting strategy focuses conservation efforts on small sub-watersheds with the goal of eventually removing a stream segment from the list of impaired waters. Read more about it at https://lnkd.in/eTBfMjXD . Growing Greener funding from PA DEP is helping to accelerate efforts in 4 catchments, including this one.

Creator | Your Online Forester | Christian | Helping Women Sustain Family Forest Legacies Through Scripture
Why its important to work with a consultant forester because they have the right eyes of expertise to know right vs wrong. Logging is naturally ugly. And the best management practices implemented often wont be noticeable to non-foresters… In fact, they can look like the opposite: - wasted wood - “covering something” Those are two of the common worries I have heard… This one for example is a matted skid trail to minimize impact of equipement on the soil, to minimize rutting! Where theres slope, slash is often recommended to be LEFT over the main skid trail to minimize erosion issues. Not every best management practice will be applicable for your logging, but it is important to know which ones might be and then work with a consultant to ensure they get implemented correctly! And lastly, remember the ugliness you see today is temporary. You’re creating a better tomorrow, a more sustainable land for your family. #landandladies #logging #youronlineforester #sustainability #forester #forestmanagement #christianbusiness #faithfamilyforest #stewardship #timber #conservation
