…..and that’s a wrap. The last get together following the conclusion of the ELIPS project. The 24 month project successfully produced Enhanced Liquid Immersion Power Systems (ELIPS). Projects for the Power Electronics Machines and Drives have been funded by Driving the Electric Revolution, an Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund delivered by UK Research and Innovation. The ELIPS with its unique cooling method offers greater packaging density, increased reliability, small packaging sizes and lower power consumption providing improved environmental impacts. GSPK has taken a central role in a project to develop Heavy Copper Power PCBs to handle the power and cooling requirements whilst ensuring suitability for immersion in the ELIPS liquids. Consortium partners for this UK supply chain were: GSPK Circuits Ltd, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult Ltd, Customer Interconnect Ltd, Supply Design Ltd and Iceotope Technologies Ltd. It was a great experience to visit SMT Connect and especially PCIM in Nuremberg last week. Having attended these fairs for several years, it's evident that the number of SMT Connect exhibitors has decreased since the covid lockdown in 2020. It seems they are allocating more marketing budget to PRODUCTRONICA in Munich instead. Luckily, the parallel PCIM fair this year was fantastic and has seen tremendous growth. The increasing focus in Europe on green energy and electric cars has significantly boosted the international PCIM event, making it a crucial meeting place for engineers involved in power electronics, intelligent movement, renewable energy, and energy management. Besides all the features outlined in my previous post, we can also reach up to 10MW without sacrificing performance due to communication latency. Everyone else can parallel, but we use Fiber Optic which reduces the latency down to 2uS (Yes, micro seconds!) from unit to unit or cabinet to cabinet 💪

Check out our presentation given at The Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) this year, titled “Efficient and compact power conversions made possible with GaN technology.” The presentation showcases an all GaN HEMTs based 1kW 48V-12V unregulated LLC solution, with GaN power devices on both the primary and secondary sides. Which uses our recent SolidGaN solution (ISG3201) to integrate a half-bridge with driver and protection, etc., all in one package. This results in a converter that's 70% smaller than a Silicon counterpart, while delivering peak efficiency of 98.5%!
