We were excited to kick off our summer conference season with the NALEO Educational Fund at their 41st Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada last week! More than 7,000 Latino elected officials were invited to network and participate in the invigorating programming sessions covering a wide array of Latino issues. As national media partners, Comcast and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises hosted "The Latino Vote 2024" plenary, featuring Chuck Rocha, Founder of Solidarity Strategies, and Mike Madrid, Principal of GrassrootsLab, with Noticias Telemundo Communications anchor Nicole Suarez as moderator. As the second-largest voting group with over 36 million eligible voters, Latinos will play a decisive role in this year's presidential elections, a fact that makes these conversations more important than ever. Very special thanks to NALEO Educational Fund and Arturo Vargas, NALEO's CEO, for bringing us all together and leading this critical work. #ElPoderEnTi #NALEO #Decision2024 #NoticiasTelemundo

As we prepare for this year's upcoming election, Latinos will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our nation. A recent report by the Pew Research Center unveiled some remarkable insights into the strength of the Latino vote. According to the report, an estimated 36.2 million Latinos are eligible to vote this year and are projected to account for 14.7% of all eligible voters in November 2024. The strength of the Latino vote is undeniable, and it's a force that can drive positive change. I am so pleased to be a member of the Board of the Latino Victory Fund. Our goal is to encourage every eligible Latino voter to exercise their right to vote. It's not just a civic duty; it's a powerful tool for advocating for the issues that matter most to our community. All of us should make it our mission to encourage friends, family, and colleagues to register and participate in the democratic process. Our collective voices can amplify the call for inclusivity, equity, and progress. It's one of the most significant ways to make our mark in 2024 and create a future that reflects our values. https://lnkd.in/gtvZJgaq #EmpowerLatinos #Election2024 #Vote #LatinosAreTheFuture

Latino or not, it is important to understand that if one chooses to stay at home, they may not have the right to complain about their government, whether it be at the local or national level. This is because staying at home implies that one is not actively participating in civic engagement or fulfilling their duties as a citizen, which includes voicing one's opinions on government policies and decisions. Therefore, it is essential to exercise our right to vote and stay informed about current events to have an active say in how we are governed.
‘Su voto es su voz.’ Latinos, how important is your vote during this year’s elections?

Mike Madrid makes his triumphant return to Talkin' Politics & Religion Without Killin' Each Other! We explored why significant numbers of Latino voters are drifting away from the Democratic Party; what explains the drift toward authoritarian populism of much of the Republican Party; how Fox News and the conservative media ecosystem keep their audience so angry; whether there are any Republicans worth supporting; we had some disagreement on whether to keep the offramp open for those who want to depart the Trump Train; what Mike means when he says that every day we go forward is a day closer to the end of Trumpism; and that #politics is downstream of #culture. And here's a doozy: How many votes in the upcoming presidential #election really matter? Out of 150 million votes, how many votes actually swing the election? And which ones? Mike Madrid is a national political strategist, an expert in demographics and Latino politics. Mike’s academic work on Latino politics became the foundation for groundbreaking communications and outreach strategies in California, Texas, Florida and nationwide. Later, Mike was a co-founder of the Lincoln Project which played a significant part in defeating Donald Trump in 2020. Mike also lectures on race, class and partisanship at USC; he is the co-host of The Latino Vote podcast along with Chuck Rocha; and he is the author of the upcoming book (Spring of 2024), THE LATINO SOLUTION. For nearly 45 years, Hispanics In Politics has made Southern Nevada an even better place to live. Besides offering a chance to feast on Doña Maria Tamales, its monthly breakfasts give elected officials and other community leaders the opportunity to discuss issues facing Southern Nevada without the rancor that has become too common in politics. Closer to Election Day, it puts on forums for candidates to connect directly with voters and hear concerns from our Hispanic community — and then it works hard to get out the vote. As the 2024 election cycle draws near, Hispanics in Politics is taking another step to encourage political involvement among our Hispanic community, which makes up one-third of Southern Nevada’s population but only a small fraction of our elected officials. The group is launching the Hispanic Political Academy, where those thinking of running for office or getting more actively involved in politics can hear directly from veteran political operators who know how to win races in Nevada. Over two days at the end of the month, the academy will provide “the essential knowledge, skills, and resources required to run a successful political campaign,” according to Hispanics in Politics. This type of outreach can only help make sure that our Hispanic community’s voices are heard and its unique perspectives are considered when shaping policies and making decisions that affect their families, friends and neighbors. By encouraging more Hispanics to take an active role in politics, Hispanics in Politics is also inspiring future generations to do the same. Young people growing up in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada will see the impact of leaders who “look like them” and be more motivated to pursue careers in politics, public service, or community activism. This is how our system works, with benefits coming from political involvement. We should all be grateful for programs like this, which empower the Hispanic community by providing those willing to get involved with the tools to address issues that impact people’s lives. Click here to sign up for the academy and to get more information: https://lnkd.in/g5xFQ2uj In the interest of full disclosure: Hispanics in Politics was founded and is led by my friend Fernando Romeo. With his signature optimism and smile, he has for decades provided counsel to elected officials and encouraged others to get more involved in the process. #hispaniccommunity #politics #LasVegas #SouthernNevada

🙋♀️ We get the politicians we deserve, because we vote for them. We also get the SXSW Sydney program we deserve, because we vote for it! (How was that for a clickbait start? Those hoping to engage in political discourse may be sadly disappointed as they read on 😂 ) ⏰ Now's the time to sign up to vote for the sessions you'd like to see this October. With voting closing on Monday 22 April (just five sleeps away) this is your nudge to finally jump on the voting platform if you haven't already. High on my voting list are: >> HYPOTHETICAL: If everything we think we know about democracy and money is wrong - then how should we redesign civilization? With Kane Jackson, Kat Dunn, 🍇 Kirstin Hunter and John-Paul Monck >> Finance is f*cked: How to reshape the industry to fix gender bias. With Jenny Rolfe-Wallace, Dawn Thomas CFP®, SSA, Kate Crowhurst and Trish Gregory CFP® >> Empowering Diversity in STEM: Building a Supportive Community for BIPOC Excellence. With Bec Nguyen and yet-to-be-announced panelists. ...what awesome sessions have I missed? Pop them in the comments. Unfortunately, it's not always an easy task to find the sessions you want to vote for. Scrolling through them takes a while (there's over 1,100 to choose from). Best bet is to search for one or two words from the title. You can vote for as many as you like. Get on it 👉 https://lnkd.in/gBxpefnV

The facts are loud! 👏🏽 With U.S. Latinos being the second-largest voting bloc in the country, our collective voice is more influential than ever. 🗳️🇺🇸 Let's recognize the significance of this moment and seize the opportunity to enforce our democracy. As members of the Latino community, our vote carries immense weight, shaping policies and decisions that directly impact our lives and the lives of future generations. Our participation isn't just about casting ballots; it's about defending and strengthening the very foundation of our democracy. Historically, the Latino vote has been pivotal in determining election outcomes and advocating for issues that matter most to us—issues like immigration reform, healthcare access, education equity, and economic opportunity. By showing up to the polls, we send a powerful message that our voices cannot be ignored, and our concerns must be addressed. In a time when democracy faces unprecedented challenges, it's crucial that we stand together as a community and exercise our right to vote. Through our collective action, we have the power to shape a future that reflects our values, aspirations, and dreams. So let's not take our voting rights for granted. Let's honor the sacrifices of those who fought for our ability to participate in democracy. Let's show up, let's vote, and let's ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear. Together, we can make a difference! 💪🏽🗳️ #LATTITUDEISEVERYTHING
