The National Biofilms Innovation Centre in the UK is working on a proposal for the establishment of a new collaborative network, which will involve academia and industry experts, regulatory bodies, and standardisation agencies. This network aims will be to evaluate existing methodologies, recommend models, and establish a structured framework for interpreting biofilm data, ultimately creating a collection of recommended regulatory tools, with consensus on the framework built by all interested stockholder groups. To do it we aim to further our understanding of barriers and benefits related to biofilm innovation and regulatory decision-making (both in the UK and internationally) and to determine which industry sectors stand to gain the most and experience accelerated positive impact from advancements in regulatory science related to biofilm control. Although the network is intended to be UK-focused, biofilm issues are global.
