Community builders are amazing. As I've been researching my 'designing communities' project, I keep coming across stories that inspire me. Some recent examples: - James Chudley's 'Sportsbox 3000': a twist on the 'books in phone boxes' pattern we see in streets across the UK - Co-housing, communes and collectives at the UK Communities conference - Projects addressing loneliness, ill health and political radicalisation in men - The simple-but-magic effect of potluck dinners! As I research these stories, I'm slowly writing them up and thinking about their implications from a design perspective. Check out https://lnkd.in/dBqfn2yG to see what I've been learning!

Building something new 🚨 Sold 2 SaaS startups 🚀 Prev Product Hunt 😻 Unpacking underdog stories of ambitious founders, VCs, creators on the Undefeated Underdogs Podcast 🎙️
New experiment for community builders: Let me be your community coach 🫡 Why: Starting a community is easy, but building one is hard. Figuring out what's working and what's not is even harder, especially for busy founders and creators! I've seen many ppl start a community and give up in a few months not knowing why. And I advised 100s of ppl guiding them with intention. So maybe I can help. How it works: 1. You will give me access to your community 2. I will spend 1-2 days shadowing and auditing 3. I will give you a detailed report on what's working well, what's not, and where you improve with battle-tested ideas My goal is to help you become a better community builder, install intention, and make it as lightweight as possible. I have 4 slots for June and will charge $100 to filter for serious candidates. If you're interested, send me a DM.

Experience Designer 🌱 Community builder 🌱 Facilitator 🌱Speaker 🌱 Building Handle with Brain and L&D Shakers 🌱 Co-Hosting Mapping Ties 🌱 Writing IRrEGULAR LEtTER
I knew nothing about communities when I started my first one. Not one thing. I had no conversations with other community builders. I read no articles. No books. Mainly because I didn't know I was starting a community. And most definitively because I never set out to build a global community. In my case, ignorance was bliss. Most likely, I would not have started if I had known how steep this learning curve would be. 😅 However, I had one thing that was crucial to keep me going: I needed this community myself, and I have found value there from day 1. Today, I have several conversations each month with people who are thinking of starting a community. And sometimes, overthinking. 😫 Often, people get lost in irrelevant details. And ignore the important pieces. I've built three communities from scratch. And from what I have learned, these are the important pieces. 👇 What else should we add here? 🤔 #community #communitybuilding #communityofpractice #CoP #learningcommunities

If learners aren't in the room, who are we designing for? On Day 17 of our Countdown to Winter Break, Katie Weisberg shares the powerful experience she had facilitating community forums in Chico, CA. Two questions guided the conversations: 1. What elements of our school do we cherish that we don't want to lose? 2. Where are the opportunities for us to reimagine? When learners began speaking about the latter, the energy in the room completed shifted. Read on for the full story: https://hubs.ly/Q02ddJQP0

What if student advisories were facilitated by interested community volunteers? Would it create true partnership between the community and schools as well as building social capital for students? Robust student advisories are always a challenge - what if this was a solution? I found this article from Springpoint in 2018 to be interesting. https://lnkd.in/eaGh9RDY
