What should associations do when a sponsor asks for the attendee list after the sponsor serves on the webinar panel? If the association says "no", all of a sudden the good will of a sponsor being positioned as a thought leader can “go south". I came across a “workaround” recently that might be helpful for associations and their sponsors. I participated on a webinar; the webinar host turned down my request for the attendee list. However, he said he had solicited questions from webinar registrants in advance of the webinar. The webinar host explained, “Bruce, 12 of the questions submitted by webinar registrants relate to the topic you discussed on the webinar panel. How about if I send you those questions and the contact information for the folks who asked the questions? You can reach out to them with answers to their questions.” Great idea! --Webinar attendees received answers to their questions. --I was positioned as a thought leader with an audience segment that requested answers. --The association got credit for providing added value to these webinar attendees. According to PR expert Jill Lublin, you need to be consistent when doing PR if you want to maintain visibility. From my own experiences, I can confirm this to be true. 💯 On the digital side, algorithms favor accounts that consistently post. For non-digital means, you still want to keep reaching out to people via events or charity so you can keep spreading awareness of your business. Across the spectrum, I see so many #nonprofit organizations, both #charity and #advocacy, approach their #digitalstrategy as pure marketing. It just doesn't make sense. Yes, digital marketing fundamentals are critical. Yes, every organization should be investing more in their digital marketing and expanding the work they are doing. But if we end up just making that better, we are still just scratching the surface of what we can do with digital. I'm a digital organizer at heart, but I've been hesitant to put on a conference focused just on engagement and organizing. It is because so few organizations have even begun to work in this space. Honestly, I've been afraid I'd lose money hosting such an event. But I know if we don't expand how organizations approach building relations i.e. deepening engagement, we won't get the change we need in the world. While modern life has given us so many conveniences, it has, without a doubt, become more complicated. Organizations absolutely need to think about deepening relationships and organizing people because that is the path to change. We are in an attention economy right now. And you are competing against better-funded entities grabbing your supporter's attention. Deeper engagement is the antidote to that.
