"However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results." -Winston Churchill Quite often it is said that Effie Awards is not a beauty competition. That is not true. It is a beauty competition for the effective strategy. Contrary to Winston Churchill, there is no such thing as a beautiful strategy without great results. Vision without execution is hallucination, as Henry Ford apparently said. I am honored to serve as the jury chair in this year´s Effie Awards in Finland. It is the most important award for marketing effectiveness. Just getting shortlisted in Effie is an achievement. Judging process is painstakingly thorough and rigid both for the participants and jurors. True human insight is not enough. Good idea is not enough. Beautiful craft is not enough. Even good results are not enough. You have to have a good strategy. Good strategy is a deliberate choice. Effie is about making the case that you made the right strategic choice with your campaign. Justifying why, what, how and so what? Looking forward to judge the strategic beauty. 🌟 Insights from Cannes Lions: Bridging Brand and Marketing Performance at Ambassadors In my last post I’ve been reflecting on the evolving dynamics within our industry. At Ambassadors, we’ve always prided ourselves on the art and craft on the Brand side, creating top-tier A-level commercials that capture hearts and minds. However, as anyone can now see: a significant change is taking place — Marketing Performance (MP) is emerging as a powerful force, becoming an “always-on” funnel due to the plenty of platforms that exist and now so much more possible at a faster pace (keeping the quality we always fight for as a craft company). While Brand command the big budgets and glamorous spots, Marketing Performance (MP) thrives earlier on automation and continuous engagement, quickly adapting to the ever-evolving digital ecosystem. Despite their individual strengths, these two identities within a brand often operate in silos, missing the opportunity to collaborate and amplify their impact. I see a change here. I think it’s crucial that we start a conversation, and that it is time to combine the strengths of both worlds. This year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity showed me even more that the future of advertising lies in the integration of Brand and MP and yes data for sure. Very excited to be a judge for The Effie's this year. Here are my 4 big takeaways after letting my experience sink in: Strategists don't network enough. It's easy to become isolated in our worlds. Get out and pick more brains! You never know where a new approach to attacking a problem could be hiding. It's a good prescription for imposter syndrome too 😉 A good idea is only as strong as the environment it lives in. A smart comms strategy is paramount to making any idea sing in our extremely fragmented digital lives. Selling a client on a crazy idea takes masterful (and simple!) storytelling. How can a simple insight drive massive results? What connective tissue is needed to get your partners to see an opportunity the same way you do? Strong client relationships matter here too. Building trust and excitement with smaller projects can go a long way in the end game. Never copy & paste your case studies. Take the time to hone, simplify, and romance for the category you're entering work in. The story of how a campaign came to be is just as important as the idea itself. Big results mean nothing without context. Simplicity is also key here. Remind yourself judges are going through piles of submissions. Best of luck to all of the entrants this year. I'm not envious of the tough decisions the final judges have to make!

This week I got to spend a day in the same room with some of the best people in Romania’s marcom and some of the best campaigns of the year. A front row view on what a solid case for Effie looks like. Here are 4 key words that stuck with me after the experience: 1. Sacrifice – a fresh reminder to stick to the essential. So often we forget that a good campaign comes from sacrificing a lot. Other ideas, other goals, other target audiences etc. This applies to Effie cases as well. Make sure to leave out any non-essential info, since time is super short. 2. Clarity – keep the objective in mind throughout the case, the big idea throughout various executions etc. Consumers don’t have time to decode what your brand has to say and jury members don’t have time to decode what the case is about. Keep it clear all the way. 3. Passion – this one is a must. How can you build a love brand if you don’t pour a little bit of your own heart while building it? Passion shines through, even in the way the case is written. 4. Results – not just any results, but the ones that are in direct correlation to that one big objective you had. It’s all about effectiveness after all. 😊 Thank you Effie Romania. It was lovely to see old friends from the industry and to listen to new perspectives.
