Critical Raw Materials are indispensable for the economy and a wide set of necessary technologies for strategic sectors such as renewable energy, digital, aerospace. ERM are proud to attend #SETACEurope2024 which is addressing the theme of “Science based solutions in a time of crisis: Integrating Science and policy for environmental challenges”. At the event, we will host a seminar (Daniele Ruccia, Peter Shonfield, Valentina Ricottone, Ph.D., Apostolos Koutsaftis, Ricardo Petersen, Francisca Ribeiro, Mariana Rato, Tim Barber) talking about sustainability in chemical design, and the need for this thinking to be inherent in the chemical design process. As part of the EU Green Deal, there is progress towards some of the targets outlined by the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability, and in particular the objective to minimise the use of the most toxic compounds in the market, but little progress on sustainability targets. This has been emphasized by the recent European Environment Agency dashboard, calling for more progress on circularity targets. The European Chemicals Agency #ShapingTomorrow Conference is underway in Helsinki today 🔬🇫🇮   Our Health and Safety specialist Julien de Cruz is representing our industry at the conference, hearing from the leading voices from the European Commission, Parliament, OECD, industry, academia, and civil society.   From over 1,000 miles away, three 🗝 takeaways:   🇪🇺 The future of chemicals regulation remains one of Better Regulation, harnessing new data tools to support better evidence based risk assessment.    🧪 Getting the industry to embrace the "safe-by-design" approach remains a top priority. This can be achieved by integrating New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) more effectively. 🌍 The European Union Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) is a major step forward in the global fight against deforestation and forest degradation.
